  1. 1. Having ordered your Twsbi Mini, what color did you select?

Let's take a poll of color selections for all those new Twsbi Minis flinging around the globe. I went with a full black and a full demo, but the Classic hybrid also intrigues me. Wondering what our FPNers picked.

Dropped for a classic because I expect to like it but not enough to add two to the stable. If I love it, I'll get the black, and if I really really really love it, I'll get all three and see about colors later on.

I guess I'll find out either today or tomorrow. The black looks the most refined of the three, but I don't really understand the appeal of a piston filler if I can't see the ink.

I just loved the Classic. Got one of those.

Oh, pens, all of you are my favorite! TWSBI, Jinhao, Montblanc, Waterman, Danish Penol De Luxe flexy pen, Cross, -- I can't choose between you! That would just be wrong.

Classic. It arrived today. Sweet pen. I expected it to be dry so I tweaked it a little before inking. It is working well with MB Jonathan Swift and writing very nicely.

Looking for an Omas Arco Verde...the one that got away.

I got the classic and it looks just fine, but... I wish i would have gone for the demonstrator version. It would be more in keeping with the almost-Sci-Fi-with-a-dash-of-Vegas styling that I think characterize most TWSBI pens. The black parts on the classic make it look like it's trying to be elegant, but the red "jewel" on the cap and lettering signal the opposite of that for me. It's the pen a Klingon would use to sign an intergalactic peace treaty.

I haven't paid much attention to TWSBI. Liked the Micarta very much when I saw it. Didn't buy one right away. Then bought one. And I like the material very much, but I find the section too wide, too thick, to write comfortably. So it's in the to-sell case.

I figure with all the pens I have (which I have whittled down to about 20 that get swapped out; the rest are mementos or souvenirs) ("that get swapped out" should read "that I intend to rotate into use eventually"), I'm not going to use any other pens. I'm done. Right? Done.

Of course, I've heard about the Mini, but I didn't pay attention to it. I have Nakaya Piccolos, for goodness's sake, what do I need with Mini anythings? I soon traded my FPN Stipula Passaporto for a vintage pen, because as nifty as the Passaporto was, I knew I wouldn't use it.

Armed with knowledge, I knew to ignore that sweet lil' TWSBI Mini, So what? Who cares? It's just another little pen.

Then I saw the review on fpgeeks.com today. I didn't even read the review. I took it all in at a glance (and there were plenty of words, paragraphs of words)... and ordered a Mini Classic.

And I ordered it with an M nib, because that was the smallest nib available. I figure I can scrape it down to a fine stub.

Why the Mini? Well, the Black was very alluring, but I like the clear barrel; I like that the black cap will hide the inky condensation; I like the relatively low price. ARGH! It was the low price that reeled me in! If it cost even $100 (which is still much less than a Nakaya), I would have continued to ignore it. But $50 seemed like a good risk.

What do the marketing brahmin have to say about that?

I do like how the Mini Classic looks, and I'm kindv excited about having a pen with a clear barrel. If this one writes great, I might be able to jettison a couple (or more) other pens I've been hanging onto because of certain features (screw-out nib, ample ink window, and so on). We'll see.

Oh wait! I know why I ordered one! Fountain Pen Day! Had to order a pen to celebrate Fountain Pen Day!

I knew there was a reason.

Lisa-I'm 100% positive that you will love your Twsbi Mini when it arrives. While I don't post with any of my regular-sized pens, the mini (capitalized mini seems strange and inappropriate) has threads to post the cap and when posted it is longer than an uposted 540 or most other unposted pens. Think Montblanc Boheme, except better since it has a piston filler. All parts are solid and high quality and the piston filler is silky smooth. I ordered a black and a demo in extra fine and fine and the nibs are also silky smooth, so your medium is sure to be a nice ride. It will be broader than your other medium nibs from the Asia Pacific region as Twsbi sources Bock nibs from Germany. I will order the Classic when they come out with an italic nib set. Regards, Mike

Mike, you've mentioned another factor that swayed me. I love pens with threaded end caps so that the cap posts by screwing it on! I know, kindv weird, but there it is. And it is weird, cos I actually don't like the fuss of screwing the cap onto the end cap, and yet... I just really like that detail.

I prefer C/C above any other filling mechanism, but I don't mind piston-fillers.

The Mini Classic looks very nice -- solidly and attractively built. I am concerned that the M nib will be far too broad, but ...we'll see. There are ways to work around that. I hear it's fairly easy to swap out TWSBI nibs (I swapped out the Micarta nib for an unmarked Edison steel nib very easily) -- in case, you know, my nib-tweaking skills are rusty. (Har har!)

Looking forward to seeing it with my hands.

Cheers,

Lisa

I'm going to get the Black Mini with a Broad Italic nib, just don't yet if the Broad Italic is out yet for the mini?

As an FYI, the 540 italic nibs fit precisely into the grip section of the mini so if you have any of those nibs no reason to wait.

I received my clear demonstrator TWISBI Mini yesterday. Initial observations:

Lovely pen, well made, nicely detailed. Surprising weighty in your hand, especially when full of ink. Piston fill is terrific. I have pretty big hands, and I would never, ever be able to use this pen unposted for any length of time. However, posted, it rests beautifully and comfortably in my hand. I like the threaded posting of the cap - solid and secure.

I'm digging it a lot.

BTW, I was cleaning pens this afternoon, and discovered that my Levenger True Writer nibs are fully swappable with the TWISBI Mini nibs. That's great.

Delurking to chime in...

Despite a major pen diet, I got both the black (EF) and clear demo (M). Love them.
