How To Disassemble Twsbi Cap

Recommended Posts

So, I scored one of the TWSBI 1.1 stubs on EBay before the price increase. It's breaking in very nicely, and I'm pretty sure it's going to get some regular use. The stub came with an extra cellophane envelope containing a new cap insert. The current insert is for a fine-nibbled pen and the stub nib shoulders rub on it.

How can I disassemble the cap to swap out the parts?

Many thanks for any suggestions.

I had the same challenge. There is a video on You Tube that demonstrates this procedure. It requires a 5mm nut driver to disassemble the cap. I purchased one online for about $7.00 US online. I like the nib very much. Best wishes, Stacy

Thanks, Bean!

I believe I may have one of those out in the garage.

You don't need to dismantle the cap to pop the new insert in. Just take a pencil with a reasonably big eraser end, or perhaps a pen of an appropriate width, stick it in the barrel far enough to wedge it into the present insert, and twist/pull it out. It's a friction fit only, and is quite easy to remove.

Thanks for all the tips! I stuck some blue painter's tape on the end of a pencil, and it popped out easily. Now my stub nib fits nicely. :)

And I should thank Speedy, too, for designing it so simply and easily for maintenance!

I'll come up with something eventually.

Hi guys,

My TWSBI has just broken down, the cap cracked and only the screw-on metal piece stayed on the pen and the rest of the cap stayed in my hand.

Speedy sent me a new cap some time ago, because I had many cracks in the cap (thanks Speedy for your great service!), so I have the part that needs to be replaced.

The problem is that I don't have the tool I need to get the nut out so I would like to ask: Do you know of any other way how to get the nut out without a nut driver?

Thanks!

5 mm nut driver is correct. I post and found this pen heavy. If one leaves the clip off, the pen becomes very postable.
