I am hoping to collect all the blue Akkerman inks. I was impressed with this one as it throws a red sheen where the ink is concentrated on Rhodia paper. I also like an ink that shades a bit, this fits the bill. It's a nice dark blue without a noticeable green undertone and surprisingly not leaning too much into the purple considering the red sheen. I quite like the look of this on Verge de France White (meaning ivory)and other cream/ecru beige toned papers. I haven't any Diamine Majestic Blue to compare the two, but I'm sure they are close. This, of course, has a better bottle. It does seem to lubricate a wee bit as well - at least the pens I have had it in run quite smoothly when loaded with Shocking Blue. Sadly, I hear the song EVERY time I load the pen.

I quite like this colour, it isn't THE blue that I'm looking for but I will likely replace it when it's gone.

I thought the 150 ml bottle would be enough to last me for a while, but now I'm not so sure. I've been using mine regularly all summer; it looks great in stubs and flex nibs, which is about all I have. Great shading!

That's a lovely shade of blue and I like the way it shades.

I am fond of that property

Oh... I hope I don't go through it TOO quick.

I like the colour and shading of Shocking Blue from your 1.5 mm nib; however, with your 1.1 mm italic and B, I think it's nice but not great. A definite maybe. Again a timely review as I'm trying decide which Akkerman inks to order for myself.

Akkerman's Shocking Blue come across as an attractive bright blue black. Neat writing in your review too.

Venus was the first record (EP actually) that I ever bought.

Although it has not been confirmed, some of us believe that Akkerman inks are made by Diamine. Shocking blue is a close match for Diamine Majestic Blue - same color, same behavior, same interesting red sheen when it dries.

It's a great color and review. Did you test it for water resistance? Does it feather on cheaper paper?

Thank-you, a glaring omission (the feathering) I will correct when I get home... for now, I can say that it doesn't feather on the cheap copier paper here at work (staples 20lb) - I will check my Moleskien and Whitelines ink journals later. it's a real shame I don't have anything inked with it today or I would try it on newsprint.

What did you have in mind for a water test?

I will douse the sheet you see above you in any manner you see fit

full immersion? how long?

just run a stream of water across the text - how strong, how long?

and thank you for showing interest in my review.

Thank you and

Bananarama cover version or the original by Shocking Blue?

...I'm actually quite happy with the guitar sound on the original, it's aged well. Still sounds good, not hokey.

No, I got that one earlier through a joint buy with Scrawler, but if you look at the comparison scan... The top and bottom inks are the ones I picked up at the Ottawa Pen Posse. Passage Blauw (a bit turquoise) and Akkerman Blauw (the jury is still out... I only have this in my newly repaired Estie, no other pen)

I will be reviewing those two inks later, I have some pens I need to write the ink out of first. It was nice meeting you, however briefly. Now I have a face to put with the FPN handle.

Nice review spiv. I do particularly like this blue. It looks better here than on paper at the RA center. The light there is not really good enough. It is a shame that I now have too much ink, otherwise I would have to run out and buy some too. I received the Hofkwartier Groen and Voorhout Violet on Sunday. I filled the newly repaired green Esterbrook with the green and have been scrawling with it all day. Unfortunately new sac does not mean clean nib. In my haste to try it I filled the pen as soon as the 24hour rest period was over and it is a bit muddy. I will have to run the fill through until the nib is uncontaminated then review that.

My scans tend to brighten things just a bit. There is a richness to this ink that I cannot convey here. If you want a sample, I can bring the bottle to the next Posse. Sorry to hear about your muddled ink. Did you notice the unintentional blend of American Blue and Apache Sunset coming out of my Estie? Diaper drippings. As soon as I got home I thoroughly cleaned it out and put in the Akkerman Blauw... I am often frugal, but I wasn't going to be writing any letters in THAT colour, mind you it did shade well. thanks for introducing me to these fine inks. Mrs. Spiv is still enjoying the Russian purple, she hasn't dipped into the Concord Grape yet.

And to think of the small fortune I paid importing albums FROM Australia.

(Dizrythmia, Mental Notes and The Beginning of the Enz) that was close to a hundred dollars in the mid-eighties!!!

spiv,

thanks for that great review! I love how this ink varies in different nibs. And the bottle is probably the most stylish and functional made nowadays. Where can I order on line? I prefer order from UK (cause the low shipping costs).

Best regards,

Fabricio
