Sailor Yama-dori, Autumn 2010 Le

I have been bemoaning lately that no one has really reviewed any of the Sailor seasonal limited edition inks. I wanted to try some out, but with no reviews and only a very few colour swatches, I didn't have a clue where to begin. I decided to randomly purchase a few and see where that took me.

I began using both the Kin-Mokusei and the Yama-Dori and loved them both. However, it wasn't until I was itching to try out more and once again mentally complaining that there were very few references to the ink on this forum that I realized if I wasn't getting off my butt to review the two I had, I shouldn't complain that no one else was doing it either.

So, here's my first ink review.

I have to start off by saying that I absolutely adore both the Sailor inks I have purchased. For my own tastes, shading is one of the most important qualities an ink can have. High saturation is nice, but I use a lot of demonstrators that I am stupidly paranoid about staining (I know, I need to get over that), so I am even willing to bend on the saturation if the shading is pretty. The two Sailor inks I bought have it in spades. The flow is great with absolutely no clogging, and the bleed through is minimal on even cheap, office copy paper.

Thanks!

ps. I cannot believe I misspelled "inoffensive" in my review. I'm running on no sleep - it's crunch time at work and school! My apologies.

Thank you for the review.

I definately agree with your observation that on more absorbent paper the Yama-Dori looks darker and greener. I compared it to Iroshizuku Syo-ro and Ku-Jaku, and find it closer to Syo-ro, again, using 22lb copy paper.

Thanks again for providing such a thorough review. I too love this ink.

Excellent review! I have this and I just love it. Agree with your observations re shading, etc and on how it performs on different papers. It is fabulous in a stub/italic nib too and shades nicely. I don't have any inks that are all that close in colour apart from Diamine Twilight, which is pretty much the same colour (to me) but darker in tone (used in italic nib).

Thanks again for the review.

Thanks for the review! It looks like a really nice color.

It seems similar to Diamine Marine, which is becoming a favorite of mine. Yama-dori may be a little darker? Anyone have both?

Thanks for the review! I think the comparison to Tsuki-yo is apt, though this one seems darker to me. However, the pen I've got it in is quite wet and seems to 'age' ink somewhat, so that might be a factor. I've got a new bottle of Twilight on deck, too, so it'll be interesting to see how they compare.

I've become a total fanboy for the Sailor limited edition inks, so I wholeheartedly agree that more reviews would be great. I've done reviews of a few of the Spring inks, but I've still got a couple of the Summer inks I could do. That Marketwatch thread was pretty cool, but it would be awesome to see more full reviews like this.

Wonderful review, simonerodrigue! This Sailor yama-dori ink has become one of my favorite inks to use. The shading is spectacular! It's hard to capture it well on a scan or photo, but this ink has a beautiful delicate red shimmer to the dark shaded areas. A very striking combination against the gorgeous deep blue/green color of the ink itself. I wish this wasn't just a limited edition ink!

Warm regards,

Does anyone who has this fancy a sample trade? I have the Sailor Evergreen lE from last year (I think). I'd love to exchange 5ml of each. Please PM me if interested.

Gorgeous little ink. Kind of reminds me of Tsuki-yo, the Iroshizuku ink.

At the edges I see lightness, almost a stroke to the words that you write!

It seems to accentuate the beauty of the writing... :ltcapd:

  • 2 weeks later...

Just wait a few weeks and Swisher pens will get it in. Art Brown might too. With the seaosnal inks, North America is always a few months behind the Japanese release date. Given the shipping from Japan (which I have paid a few times!), it will be cheaper to just wait a few months and get it in the USA. That way you can also see reviews and figure out which oens you want to buy. :)

I'm going to buy another one of each of the colours when they get it in because I love Yama Dori and Kin Mokusei so very, very much.

Well I'm in Singapore, and they get them quite fast over here but they sell out fast too!

Pity cause the country is a small dot and so... There aren't much stocks... :crybaby:

Miruai is much darker.

Forgive the shameless review flogging - I don't think there's another of Miruai up yet.

Wow, this ink looks great. Seems to have lovely shading and I love the hue. I will definitely try to get my hands on it.

Thanks for the review. :)
