Hi All, Hope someone can help.

 

I have acquired a Wyvern Orium Major No.90 which is in very good condition except that it was left inked for years and will require some attention. Can anyone give me any history on this model and recomend what steps I should take to restore it to use?

What kind of filling mechanism does it use? If its a lever or button, it should be simple enough to get working again.

I have an old Wyvern also, which I don't know, but the sac fossilized and died ages ago. Mine has a F-1 or F- 1 1/2 nib, one just shy of the fancy Handlebar mustache L, Sidewinder rattle snake S's.

 

First just sit it in a cup of water that is over the nib and let is sit over night. Perhaps it will absorb enough water to loosen up the ink.

 

 

If you have an ultra sonic cleaner in the house that would be second...depending on the age of the pen.

 

I foolishly erased the better pictures and am not willing to go dig out the cameras to make pictures; right now. As soon as I do, I'll add better close ups, later tonight.

My Wyvern is the green one..

I am going to start selling some stuff on Ebay and thought to make some space on Photobucket.

 

Mine I would date from the 30's because of the wrapped celluloid. It is missing a top jewel or such on the cap.

It's a lever. Also, if it makes any difference, it has an Iridium Tip. Thanks for the quick response.

Thanks for the response.

I will take some pics tomorrow and upload them. From the feint rattle coming from inside the pen I think the sac may also have fossilised.

The Oriums were middle range pens aimed at the school market. They all had steel nibs and no precious metal adornments, if any nibs are gold they are definatly a replacement. They were produced between the early thirties until the late forties. Most were lever fillers with the very occasional button filler turning up. Oriums normally came in sets of pen and pencil. They were, or still are, well made funtional pens some have really nice colours. A word of caution when dismantling. The early Oriums had no thread on the section but the majority had threads and some were left handed. But apart from that there is nothing special about them and they are straight forward to repair and maintain. Good luck with yours and PM me if you are unsure or stuck on anything.

I was so shocked...mine just screwed off, no hair dryer and rubber bottle opener or Dremel smoothed plier with a heavy rubber cover needed.

Logic in a pen; how unusual.

Tomorrow, I was off visiting after a meal with a couple of glasses of wine, so I am not in the mood to try to make a picture. I could but, why, tomorrow comes.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
