Jinhao pens - what kind of cartridge will they take?

I bought a real nice-looking Jinhao pen on ebay at my daughter's request, for a gift for a friend of hers. While it does have a cartridge converter thing in it, I dont' imagine her friend has any experience with trying to squirt ink from a bottle into a fountain pen reservoir, so I was hoping to find some ink cartridges to use with it. But I can't find out anywhere what kind of cartidge might actually fit in it. I tried one made for Cross pens, kind of short and narrow, but it didn't want to stay, and surely would have wound up spilling ink everywhere.

Does anyone here know what kind of ink cartrige might fit one of these Jinhao pens? I can provide the specific model type if need be.

thanks in advance

JC

I only have 2 Jinhao pens, but they take international cartridges and therefore I assume that they would also take a Waterman cartridge if the barrel is big enough.

Cool. I can get rid of the nasty converter in my Confuscius, then. That's good to know.

(Are the watermans not standard sized international cartridges? They fit my Rotrings fine.)

Waterman branded carts are International longs. If yo have a pen that takes internationals, and it's long enough, it will take Watermans.

ok, thanks - I"m wondering if the Schaeffer cartridges I bought might also fit - they look like they're about the same size without being able to directly compare them.. Any idea? I'd just rather not open them, and return them to the store to exchange for Watermans if they don't work; otherwise I'd just try them out.

Just don't get Aurora or Parker cartridges, the width of the cartridge opening is different (wider in diameter) than the international cartridges. Watermans should do fine.

Sheaffer cartridges are proprietary and are not interchangeable with internationals, therefore they will not fit the Jinhao pen. Use any cartridges that are branded as international size and you'll be good (Waterman, Private Reserve, Pelikan, etc..) just avoid proprietary ones such as Sheaffer, Pilot, and Parker.

Parker 51 Aerometric (F), Sheaffer Snorkel Clipper (PdAg F), Sheaffer Snorkel Statesman (M), red striated Sheaffer Balance Jr. (XF), Sheaffer Snorkel Statesman desk set (M), Reform 1745 (F), Jinhao x450 (M), Parker Vector (F), Pilot 78g (F), Pilot Metropolitan (M), Esterbrook LJ (9555 F), Sheaffer No-Nonsense calligraphy set (F, M, B Italic), Sheaffer School Pen (M), Sheaffer Touchdown Cadet (M), Sheaffer Fineline (341 F), Baoer 388 (F), Wearever lever-filler (M).

It says 165 on the end. I tried to unscrew it. It's a fountain pen.

You might need some cushioned pliers then. (Or cover the teeth of pliers with some type of soft material.)

If you don't care that much on the looks of the pen grab some pliers and grip the grip. Then twist the body.

This auction has a picture of one that's open. They just unscrew:

I think the factory might had over tightened the pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
