Update on Delays from The Journal Shop in the UK

I've been hearing that there have been delays with orders from The Journal Shop in the UK. I know they have a rather small operation, and I was concerned that something may be wrong. I just sent an e-mail to Alex, and received the following auto-reply:

Thank you for enquiry.

Due to unforeseen illness requiring hospitalisation, The Journal Shop will be unable to respond to any emails or dispatch orders until Friday 23rd January.

On that date, new staff will take over to catch up with work accumulated during the previous weeks and will be on hand to:

- refund orders no longer needed

- fulfil outstanding orders

- deal with any other enquiries

Please accept our sincere apologies for this delay and inconvenience to yourself. We thank you for your patience during what has been a very difficult period for us.

Alex,

Alex has been really good people to me, so I'm going to send soe good thoughts his way.

I'll second that; The Journal Shop was the first place I started ordering CdA ink and journals from at the start of my FP odyssey, and I have been loyal ever since.

Me too, I use The Journal Shop a lot and have always appreciated their friendly and excellent service.

Thank you for the update Biffybeans, I was wondering what was going on, as it seemed so out of character for them.

I have tried to buy from them twice but did not because of amazing honesty. Both times I asked about the FP ability of the products I was about to order to have thenm tell me not to buy as I would not be happy with them using FP. Amazing honesty that stopped me buying a mistake (wish all Moleskin sellers were that upfront).

Good healthy thoughts your way Alex.

I have now received a reply from them.

There are back in business, but still going through what appears to be a large backlog of orders.

  • 11 months later...

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I was wondering has anyone ordered within the last month or so from The Journal Shop or heard back from them recently?

I ordered a few notebooks from them, but had to send one back as it was defective, to be exchanged. Well, the last time I heard from them was almost a month ago. They don't reply to my e-mails. Does anyone know what's up with them? I'm still waiting for my notebook...

Hi, I too am waiting on an order from The Journal Shop - it was placed at the beginning of Jan, and they immediately deducted the cost from my credit card. I have been emailing them to let them know that I still have not received my delivery, but have received no replies whatsoever. I've been trying to track down a telephone number or even an address for them, but am having no luck whatsoever. Am getting a bit frustrated at the lack of customer service, and had been looking forward to receiving my journals :-( Does anyone know if they are actually still operating?

  • 11 years later...

So, 11 years later, what are people's experiences with The Journal Shop now? Placed my first order with them, and with next day shipping on Tuesday morning, and they status of my order is still waiting to be picked.

I'm tempted to cancel my order as they seem unreliable.

I actually just ordered a Midori MD from them last week, and it was delivered as normal with no problems. But I didn't pay extra for next day shipping or anything.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
