My 1st experience with Mont Blanc customer service

Blade Runner

Recommended Posts

I recently exchanged a new Mont Blanc medium nib for a fine.

Their service facility is a short drive from home.

My wife dropped it off Thursday morning, and I picked it up the following afternoon.

Short of having your pen fixed at a show, this must be some kind of record for turnaround time.

They have a waiting room with a tempting display case of pens, watches and leather goods.

No lost opportunity for advertising. :P

Allow me to dispel a few myths:

The MB service folks did not all wear Armani and display a supercilious attitude.

They were actually quite attentive and friendly.

And their exhorbitant fee for this service was $0.00

In 14 years of writing with MB pens I've never before required the services of their customer service.

My first experience with MB service was a very positive one.:):)

Regards,

J

Always nice to hear about good service!

Agreed. Always nice to hear regardless of the brand. No charge for a nib exchange? I'm impressed!

I get a lot of things fixed while I wait if it's a service center I can drive to. This kind of operation usually needs around 5-10 minutes.

Jeen:

Did you have to show proof of purchase or any of that? I also live in Allentown, PA and have had a pen monogrammed while I waited. Nice folks I must say. I have a Medium nib on a 149 that I would like to exchange. Can you tell me more what the circumstances were with your exchange.

Hi JRG,

Here's the response from MB's customer service:

"The nib exchange can be performed free of charge, provided the pen was

purchased within the last 6 weeks and the nib is in resaleable condition.

You must include the completed warranty card or proof of purchase.

Fountain pens older than 6 weeks will incur a charge of $32.00 if your

pen is made from resin and $52.00 if your pen is metal, provided the

nib is in excellent condition.

If the nib is found not to be in excellent condition, an estimate will

be sent for your approval.

We recommend that you package your pen securely in a box or bubble type

envelope, include a brief cover letter stating the nib size you prefer,

send via UPS or Fed Ex insured to:

Attn: Service Department

Montblanc, Inc.

252 Brodhead Road

Suite 500

Bethlehem, PA 18017

Once we receive your package, the turnaround time is approximately 2-4

weeks."

service@montblanc.com

Regards,

J

Edit: You can drive it over, but for posting a pen, I recommend mailing it it in a box rather than bubble envelope.

My husband has about 5 old style MPs (don't ask me the models as he doesn't even know). They were given to hi grandfather when he used to work at Siemens in Germany. Over the years, he's had to send a couple in for repairs and I'm telling you the service is incredible. They've never asked for a re-shippng fee and it's returned before you know it. Also the last time they sent something back (about 2 years ago) they included 2 bottles of ink - free.

A hot wind was blowing around my head, the strands of my hair lifting and swirling in it, like ink spilled in water. ~ Margaret Atwood, The Blind Assassin

Really? I wonder if they have a place for a burned-out and pre-maturely graying tech writer. :eureka:

I had no idea there were other Lehigh Valley members here.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
