But you see, they are NOT made from bamboo, but urushi only. I was told the finish looks simple, but it is very difficult to do especially around the knots. I want to see them in person that's for sure.

Yes, I realized they are simulating bamboo. that's why I like them, they look like my shakuhachi flute (the brown one). I already have a Namiki Bamboo. I just like bamboo!

Dang it, Kevin!

Now I have to figure out how to save up for a "Rose in Arabesque" (or similar) pen!

Kevin, you're funny!

Bryant, I love that flat-top! Sweet!

Jose, which Danitrios do you have inked? Are you using your Danitrios? Do you have a special Danitrio Rotation?

So far, I have tried about six inks in my Danitrio. Today, it has Pilot Black, which is really nice.

And I wasted the weekend trying to make pen pictures :headsmack:

Great collection. You and Mac better never let me get your address.

I will have to get my picture skills up to par, but hwo can I when you two keep moving the bar!

:eureka: I wonder if there's a market to "lease" high-end pens?! Would there be drive offs associated with that? :hmm1:

:roflmho:

Post your weekend pics Joi! What 'cha waiting for? :bunny01:

Hey Mac, you've got to leave some pens for next year. By my count, you have gotten something like 25 pens since early Feb. Your Mail carrier must hate you! :roflmho:

As to the pictures. My computer's virus protection suddenly stopped working. I need to reload Zone Alarm. Just have not had time. But I have taken some more pictures and they came out pretty good. I will get them up as soon as I can. Life has been on Full Chaos Mode the last two weeks. I need to go on a retreat!

  • 3 weeks later...

Just got this pen for a photo shoot, and proved to be difficult to capture the essence of the art work. The pen is call Hane, or feathers, and different kinds of feather is the theme. Very difficult to photograph as the pen is done with Togidashi maki-e method. The artist is Mr. Masanori Omote.

I think that is the most beautiful maki-e feather pen I've seen. Muted and subtle. I'm not sure I'm really into the new fad of squares of gold placed about, but I'd probably enjoy that design in the same urushi as my moon pen. Very nice, Kevin.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
