My one and only Nakaya. Long Piccolo. Black urushi. BB nib with flex added by John Mot then later stubbed by Pendleton Brown. The Montblanc pen pouch is curious as to what is going on........

Here's something I received last week. Vintage catalogs on Stan's site tell me it is a Platinum PPN-10000. I've read it may have been launched in 1974. It is almost the same size as a Lamy 2000.

:) Love it.

How's about my lightweight plastic no name pen from Platinum?

Despite it's cheap feel it has a gorgeously smooth nib.

It was an ebay find for £21.48 delivered and came with a matching ballpen. Result.

I'll give you Maestro.

There is a fab Yellow Ford Cortina MK3 nearby. I've been meaning to park next to it and have a little sketch.

Lol, I meant the pen not the car. . There is a #3776 Maestro in some markets, also seems to be called the Balance.

So happy right now.

I've wanted to recommend that pen to so many people but not had any idea how to. Thanks perrins57 !

Off to Google & eBay.
No, wait, just Google as I'm not buying any more pens this year. Only inks.

Coming predominantly from a Cartier, Montblanc, S.T. Dupont fountain pen background, I got acquainted with the Nakaya and Platinum fountain pens last weekend.

I ended up buying three, two Nakayas and one Platinum. I now cannot thank myself enough for having made the decision to try these truly wonderful writing instruments.

And a Nakaya accessory - leather pen case. Fits my S.T. Dupont Shanghai President 2009 spot on:

And thank you!

Ahhh, Shobu. That shade of purple is really difficult to photograph! All my attempts in a light tent have made the pen look black instead. But I have this one photo from a couple of years back, taken with a point-and-shoot camera.

Just a quick question here bit of confusion, but is Nakaya and Platinum the same company.

Just found this resurrected old thread and sure enjoyed browsing through the photos. Here are my two - a Nakaya Naka-ai in Heki Tamenuri and a Platinum Izumo Yagumonuri, which remains the most beautiful pen I have ever seen.

I bought the Nakaya, my first, at the LA Pen Show last winter and am looking forward to choosing a second at the DC Show next weekend.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
