FPN Platinum and Nakaya gallery

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This thread is for people to post their Nakaya and Platinum. It does not need to be a fountain pen, pencils, erasers, boxes, refills are all nice. Old advertisment pictures are nice too.

I will start with a welcome banner. It does not need to be a very good picture, just about any picture will do

From left to right, Platinum Auto eraser, (kind of like a mechanical pencil that puts out eraser), Platinum Honest 66, Nakaya and converters, then vintage ink cartridges, finally a case and papers.

A couple of low-end Platinums from speerbob: black stripe and brown stripe, with a little flex in the 14k xf nibs.

Love 'em.

By the way, I did not choose the color and style of the 中屋, but I like the way it writes very much, so I have it inked all the time. It's more of a light coffee color and does not look very yellow, but the camera has a hard time taking a picture of it. I took two pictures, with flash and without flash and it is closer to the with flash picture. I'd like to take a picture of the nib of the Platinum some time. I'll see what I can get.

Yes she is... she even tried it (to avoid a late nib swap) and her face looks like :cloud9:   ... I´m torturing her... :ninja:

Here is a Platinum P-300 next to an Aurora Talentum. The P-300 nib is remarkably close to a basic Pilot Elite - but the P-300 has a clear transparent feed! Nifty!

Two Platinum pens: the Platinum Aurora, and Platinum Kan Tin. The first is a stunning maki-e pen. Whenever I get bored at a meeting, I can take this pen out, and admire it under different angles. The second one is an unexpecte pen. Japanese pens are better know for their lacquer than for being solid sterling silver. Both Sailor and Platinum have produced silver pens. This one has a Platinum nib. I prefer regular gold nibs, but anyway, it is a great pen. Ruud

I have quite a few Nakaya pens: seven, and then my wife owns one. I had the great opportunity to talk to Nakata-san, and visited their office in Tokyo. Wonderful experiences. Some pictures below. Ruud

beautiful collection Ruud, my question whether Nakaya is not overrated and overpriced.

Grasnted high quality custom pens but the\difficulties involved with all the back and forth unless you are lucky enouigh to buy one personally and have tweaked by one of the Japanese nib meisters at a show or at their Tokyo store, quite cumbersome. Maybe now with lovcal distributors things will improve.

BTW Ruud I think i recognise one or more of those plat beauties in your menagerie. Pleased you're making good and enjoyable use.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
