I have to say that if royal blue was chose, I would find it in myself (and my accounts) to buy it. If it were China blue, I would strongly consider it.

Even I voted for green, I finally took some time to come up with a few blues:

Michael, thank you so much for doing this. Your skills with photoshop are an incredible asset!

How about a poll with Michael's colours?

As I postulated a while back, this project lacked the organization, devotion, and seriousness a it would require. Stagnant, as all similar FPN projects have become.

That seems a little on the harsh side, JJ. Bear in mind that the people who brought this idea to bear have lives to lead, too. Perhaps now isn't the right time for the project, given the state of the financial markets, but I highly doubt that it has much to do with the willingness to see it through.

On a lighter note, I couldn't help smiling when I logged on and clicked View New Posts, to see these two topics arranged one under the other:

Are the colors and shades actually available from Sailor? I'd probably be willing to buy either the Olive Green or Indigo Blue. Can we only have one color choice? I haven't voted until I understand more about the actual color choices. And are solids colors the only ones available - no mosaics available?

Edit for grammar.

I would imagine that Sailor would keep the Mosaic options pretty close to the vest, fearing that by making a sprint run for one particular customer, they'd be diluting the value of the higher-end Mosaic lineup.

Based on some experience in the custom-ordered promotional goodies market, my guess is that by offering more colors, Sailor would charge more setup costs. Those would be our responsibility to bear as the customer of The Pear Tree Pen Co., who's handling the order. Unless everyone is willing to pay a little more for a choice of colors, I doubt it'll be feasible/affordable. I suppose it depends on the setup costs, though.

JJ I think was a little harsh. Following this thread, I understood that James was going to get a colour chart from an actual Sailor rep, then he and JJ were going to see if they could share that with this thread (or a new one) so a decision could be made. Clearly there is still interest. And we are looking to the generosity of James and JJ (is there something here about the letter J?) to do some organisation so that the rest of us with lesser connections can join in and make this concept real

Michael, I love your colours! Your the Van Gogh of Pen colour.

And remember at the foundation of all this, we love our pens, and this is a fun project with an achievable and enjoyable goal.

So, what is happening with this plan?

Good question. I think there is still interest, but it seems stalled somewhere in the communication among James, the Sailor rep, and Sailor in Japan. I don't know that there's any more to be done about it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
