betty's thread re: pictures of ink inspired me to take some snaps of my desk. sorry, no shots of my ink, as they're strewn all about the house. thought it'd be an interesting look into the lives of fpn'ers... :)

Topics like this are always fun. But you asked for it. I just grabbed the camera, stepped back and took the picture, mess and clutter and everything. The fountain pens are even in there somewhere.

Here's a couple....quick and dirty:

A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.

We had this type of thread on another forum on which I participate. Each new post contained a picture of that persons desk and computer, with the previous post of the thread showing on their monitor. That way you end up with a desktop within a desktop within a desktop etc etc. Good fun - perhaps we should try it here?

And no, you're not seeing my desk! Not until I've tidied it anyway B)!

Okay. Just grabbed the camera and took the picture. Didn't clean up or anything. Very cramped, very humble, but note the paper napkins with PR American Blue blots and the stains on the rather nice inclined aluminum writing platform. I think I'm kinda odd for not liking things on my wall -- no pictures etc. It gets in the way of my thinking...

You want messy ? :D

Denis,

I don't think your test can be called messy by any means. In fact, it looks so executive like :)

I love these kind of posts :) I need to take a picture of mines too.

I got messy right here! I took this today when my Mom asked me, "So what are you doing today?"

I remember a similar thread sometime ago, but I didn't manage to get around to take the photos then, so here are some pics of my study.

Standing in the doorway of our second bathroom, you can see my table.

Turning to the right a bit, you can see my standing shelves and an antique cupboard. Overhead, is an L-shaped row of shelves, mostly to store comics.

To the right of that antique cupboard is my bureau.

You can't always get what you want... but if you try sometimes... you just might find... you'll get what you need...

Yeah, the Soundsticks are pretty cool -- note the subwoofer hiding under the desk. They sound great, but probably no better than a regular analog system. I guess I was momentarily blinded by technolust. When I play DVDs I just roll the whole system closer to the sofa so I can watch with my girlfriend. I call it the DougVision system. But with only a 17" screen, an audience of two is pretty much the maximum. Any more and people's heads will start knocking together.

P.S. Ink does not permanently stain aluminum, thank God!

All right you asked for it. This is my desk at home. Step back and snap the pic. I probably spend more time on FPN at work as I just sign on in the morning and check in a couple times an hour or so, but this one is at home and that is where my camera was.

great snaps, everyone! i think these pics tell a lot about the desk owners... :o

in terms of lack of messiness, i cheated - the desk i showed is not really my working desk as it's in my bedroom loft, and a pain to get to. The computer desk located at 3:00 (not included in the photo) is real messy.

alright, howsabout some REAL messy desk shots? bring em on! we can take it...:D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
