Hopefully going to get this gorgeous desk soon!

That is sexy!

You know what would go well with that? A traditional brass piano lamp:

Sit it on top of the desk, right in the middle, and it'll give you all the light you need.

Man... Those lamps are beautiful!

Seriously. A desk like that, you must have a brass lamp. The alternative is this:

Which one would look better on an antique desk?

Those modern moulded plastic lamps look cheap. And they are cheap. But they lack any sort of panache, or class or style of any kind whatsoever.

Piano lamps and banker lamps have survived for decades for one simple reason: They're solidly built, and they're a classic, timeless design that everyone loves. For no other reasons would they still be making them brand-new, today.

That's what they're called. Piano lamps. My aunt has one on her piano, too!

I was a kid when we got the piano and the lamp, and I just always figured it was a random lamp my parents put there. Never occurred to me it was specifically designed for that.

I'd love a Banker's Lamp for my desk. If you have a classic looking desk, they just complete the look.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you get that fabulous looking rollertop :puddle: You get a great looking desk and we get to see more pictures to drool over.

Are you aware of the make? If you have the space, a banker's lamp would be a super look against that wonderful solid oak! ;)

Banker lamps have a rather wide base-profile. You'll have a diameter of at least six or nine inches, i believe. So you'll need at least that much space on top of the desk for the lamp.

I am, it's an 1886 desk made by Northwestern Furniture Co. The family wants it to go to a good home... My house would be perfect!

Alright... I didn't get that desk... It was in too rough of condition and too far away... I didn't give up though!

Oooh my!!

A very nice desk.

A typical banker's lamp has a base-diameter of about SEVEN INCHES. So the top of your desk will have to be at least that deep, to safely place such a lamp on top of it. The lamp is also about 15 inches high, so you'll need at least that much space above the highest point of your desk.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
