I use the powder for baby bottoms and the shaker bottle. it absorbs the paper dampness during the monsoon and during dry times it soaks up most the ink when my humble pen burps.

 

Nice to see photos of those fancy things. Does your brothers buy them for you?

Do you mean just regular Johnson and Johnson Baby powder? Or are you talking about talc?

 

Hmm....couldn't one just use a fancy sugar caster or salt shaker for a pounce pot? Or would that not work?

I would think that a salt shaker would work. The pounce pots I've seen are like a salt shakers only with a concave top designed so that you could easily put back your leftover pounce.

Recently (about a year ago) I acquired a Staedtler Mars Dry Cleaning Pad Non-Abrasive. That is a bag filled with dry gum eraser. Use it often to clean up erasures and restore the surface of a paper before inking.

 

After inking, a bit of fine "sand" used to be shaken over a document to absorb and help dry the ink. Not sure what the sand was made of. But talc and gum sandarac seem to be good candidates for that.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
