Its very difficult to find Chelpark pens like Moti and Maverick in Bangalore AFAIK. I make it a point whenever i come across stationary shops in Bangalore to see if these pens are still available. But the answer till date is in the negative. Chelpark supplies only FP ink nowadays( in Bangalore, at least ). According to the vendors, They have stopped supply of Piston filling fountain pens. Wish i could get my hands on one of the Maverick's :(

Excellent review of a pen i owned at school Hari. Thanks.

Hari, I just got into Camlins and Chelpark and I have been so thankful for your insightful reviews. I just picked up my first Moti and I am very impressed with the pen I just bought for Rs75. Cheers!

Bismi seems to be available only in Kerala. I will be interested to try the pen if I am able to buy some.

the pen was manufactured by Syed Pens (or, Syed Stationery, i believe) at Broadway Ernakulam Kerala. Now its not manufactured. I hope pieces can still be found at shops near that area.

A Couple of weeks back I got one Bismi along with some other old pens like Bril, Ceilo, Butterfly, Cruiser, Doctor and some Ebonites, from a small shop at Trivandrum. Post the pictures later.

can one still get chelpark pens?

Yes, they should be easily available to you locally at Allahabad. Atleast the Antik ED model.

Chelparks have become almost impossible to find in Delhi. The dealers here started to tell me they were going out of business, but I now know that to be false. I have better luck finding them the closer I am to Mumbai, where they are manufactured. But, even then, I am mostly only finding the Moti and Antic these days. Good luck!

Thanks for your kind comments Dev, I think the Camlin piston filler you are talking about is the Camlin Sleek, It is a nice pen too, very similar to the Moti but with a different semi cylindrical nib, the cap is totally different. You can still get the sleek in some shops in Mumbai, it is a current model.

Warm Regards,

Hari

how do you compare chelpark with camlin- the top models from both companies. like sleek vs moti. 47P vs any chelpark hooded nib version. the chelpark cheaper models i got luckily in allahabad, are steal at Rs. 20 to30. they easily beat Camlin cheaper models.

Similar quality levels on the Sleek and Moti. I would give a very slight edge to the Moti over the Sleek. I don't recollect any hooded nib Chelpark model.

these pens are so cheap relative to foreign pens, I recommend you to get some and try for yourself whenever you find them...

ETA: BTW, The top FP model from Camlin is the Sharad Dandekar at INR 600/- around 12USD.

Yes Hari I bought Commander and Brigadier. Now that I have enemy's top officers with me, victory will be ours :P

Even enemy's lowest rank soldiers are damn good compared to their foreign counterparts. so i will knock them down (all models) wherever i would catch them.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China. With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters. Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed. And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments.. I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
