Sailor 1911

Hi all

I recently purchased a Sailor 1911 that has a 14k nib and a rounded cap. All the 1911's i've seen on the net are 21k with flat cap, is this an old model? a copy?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

Sounds like an older model to me.

Before the 1911, Sailor made a some what smaller pen with a rounded top and a 14kt nib called the Magellan. I would bet you have one of those.

Hey can you post your sailors nib picture? it will be easy to tell then.

I think you have the ols sailor pen with small rounded. DOes your nib has an anchor mark or just written 1911 on it?

It's not a fake. I have not heard of a fake sailor. The 14k nibs come in the 1911m and sapporo series. Pictures would help to identify the pen, but rest easy that you will have a Sailor pen that you are going to love.

I agree. So far I have not heard of fake Sailor pens. I don't believe it is fake either. A photo of the pen will be helpful for us to identify the pen for you. Well, it may turn out that you are holding a much coveted pen in your hand. :)

Other pens available for sale:

Pelikan : Keep a watchout here, M805 FPs, M400 and M405 FPs,

Does it look like this one?

In Japan the base level 1911 (known as the Profit Standard) is cigar shaped and comes with a 14k nib. I could be wrong but I think that only the 21k version is available in North America.

Is the Profit Standard the equivalent to the full-sized 1911 or the 1911m?

I'm wondering the same question as the OP since I found a 14k nib purportedly for the [full-size] 1911, but I'm wondering why it is only 14k and not 21k? The nib/section unit seems to be the older model with the wider trim ring at the front of the section closest to the nib, as opposed to the thin trim ring near the threads on the current models. Also the nib has the simpler "Large Anchor" logo stamped on it instead of the one with the smaller anchor and double line border on the nib.

This previous thread has information about the models and sizes: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/4085-sailor-1911/page__st__30__p__41236entry41236

The real name of the pens are not 1911 and 1911M:
1911 = Profit 21
1911 Color = Profit 2021
1911 M with 14k nib = Profit Standard
1911 M with 21k nib = Profit Standard 21
1911 M Color = Profit 1019

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
