Great review.

I love big pens and for 69$ this pen (with steel nib) is a steal.

I see a Laban in my future.

I think its perfect for an ED conversion.

Yes . . . I see an Amazon Forest Mento ED in my (near) future . . .

I just bought a Laban Mento Electric Yellow. Absolutely gorgeous. I could happily buy another one, identical, just to have as a work horse, and the other one to have just in case.

My only gripe is that i have looked very very closely to the body and cap, and there are a few tiny little blemishes on the finish, that looks like the resin is a touch damaged. Might be due to the cooling process of the resin/plastic material. I have not noticed any problems with it drying out however, like other people have mentioned.

I have a Leban Mento Pumpkin and love the size, weight and beautiful colors. As others have mentioned, my Mento stops writing and has to be coaxed to write again if left, capped, for even a short time. I would have included a picture, but the attaching files feature hasn't been working for me since yesterday, so I'm using a different source.

I have a Laban Mento in tortoiseshell. I just love the transparency of the resin.

I have just sold a Laban Boneto which is about the same size, very underrated.

I would recommend either if looking for a good value large pen.

I have a Laban Mento, and it is a wonderful fountain pen. I have started using Noodlers Black Eel in it and any problems I had with getting it started before have vanished.

Nice writer and good size for those who like larger pens.

Thank you for the review.

Laban make a lot of pens in colors that are "in your face" and draw a lot of attention and that is good. Don't we

want to be noticed when we are using or FP's ? They are also good writers to boot and that is a plus.

Just noticed there are several being sold quite cheaply on Ebay right now. No good if you're outside the States, due to the high shipping - but a really good price otherwise.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
