Hero Pen slight leaking

I have a Hero 329 that I brought to use at work today. When I'm not using it, I lay the pen flat instead of upside down on a pen holder.

 

When I gently take off the barrel (yup, I've learned a lesson of ripping off fountain pen caps like a ballpoint pen is a no no), there is a small ink spill on the barrel that the cap was over.

 

Is this my fault because I laid the pen flat or is there something wrong with the pen? It's not a biggie if you're not in a rush and can wipe off the ink before starting to write, but if you're quickly trying to jot a note down, your fingers are ink smeared.

I might want to have a look at it. Laying the pen flat or cap up is good, but laying the pen upside down...

 

It might be something serious, but did you just fill the pen?

Yeah, I mean upside down is laying the pen upright...bad wording.

 

Yeah, I just filled it up yesterday, so maybe there's still some ink hidden in the hood?

Either way, it should not leak, but try to drip one drop out of the hood to see if that helps.

Hi Betty,

 

I had the same type of problem with a Hero 616. It turned out to be leaking where the hood screws on to the body of the pen over the collector.I cleaned the ink out of the pen and unscrewed the hood, put a few drops of shellac on the threads, and screwed the hood back on. I was careful to line the hood back up to the nib properly, then let rhe shellac dry for a day or two. The 616 is as good as new and used every day at work.
