I'm jealous!

This is my all time favorite ink and can't get it anymore. Great for signing formal documents, as the brown stands out from black type and yet is subtle enough not to be gaudy or "in your face."

As a fan of brown ink, this was the best brown I found to simulate the look of old antique iron gall documents. It still looks good after 14 years.

I used it for years in my Duofold without any problems at all. In fact, I used to drink it, bathe in it, use it for after-shave and cologne, and put it on my cereal for breakfast. This is just a great ink.

Take a swigg, really, you'll like it!

Nice review... :puddle:

I don't think that there is an exact clone, but as girlieg33k says, R&K Sepia and Cd'A Grand Canyon do come close, although the former is greyer and the latter lighter.

Since the date of the review, however, Diamine have brought out their Chocolate Brown, which while it is very very slightly warmer has the same saturated quality and depth of tone. I think it is currently the best you're going to get. And it's cheap, too :happyberet:

Is there any ink currently available that resembles this gorgeous color? I have a ton of brown inks, but none are like this. puddle.gif

The 'old' version of J Herbin Cacao du Bresil is fairly similar.

I love Penman Mocha and am on my last bottle (and it seems unlikely that I'll find any more, at least not at a price that I'm willing to pay), so I've been thinking aobut the Cacao du Bresil (as a brown that tends toward grey, rather than red). Thanks for the recommendation.

I got a bottle of this off e-bay about 6 months ago. I love it. I don't think there's another exact match, but to my eyes at least, Iroshizuku Yama Guri is as near as you can get. Having said that, Iroshizuku inks are about as expensive as Penman bottles, but they are a little easier to get hold of!

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! Yama-guri is pretty close, but only when it's wet. After it dries, it has a yellowish/green tint that I really don't like. I'll have a look at R & K Sepia, too.

Thanks for the review. Is it just me, or does this look a bit purplish?

Thank you for this review. I just got a pack Mocha cartridges and I was curious to see how they look. Debating whether I should sell them, or use them... :hmm1:

Don't use them - you'll realise that Mocha is exceptional. Subsequently, I reckon you'll spend your waking hours trolling the 'Net and driving back roads on the search for more Mocha. Nope - don't do it. All the rest of you inks will pale in the shadow of the memories of Mocha. Nope - don't do it. Unrequited emotions will dog you. Nope - don't do it.

Indeed it is wonderful; but go easy on 'em - one does not want to be disowned by their dogs.

What a waste -- I was prepared to pay $500.00 per cartridge, but I only buy full unopened packs.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I was feeling a bit depressed and It really cheered me up. You know, Penman Sapphire was my favorite, and I still have a couple of bottles which I save for sipping at Thanksgiving. People usually think I'm very cold because I have such blue lips.

P.S. I really think Parker should bring back these inks but call them "The World's Most Dangerous Inks." They would sell like crazy.

Had no idea this was discontinued! Ive been using it for my copperplate practice... and i watered it down a bit, too. Suddenly feel like I've been committing sacrilege.

The Llama is a woolly sort of fleecy hairy goat, with an indolent expression and an undulating throat; like an unsuccessful literary man.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
