Welcome aboard, Lisa! Ah, the Visconti Traveling Ink Pot... did you end up finding one? I like their designs but they are a bit pricey for what you get. Check out eBay, as you can find some cool vintage travel/portable ink pots/wells up for sale there. I picked up a cool bakelite one.

FPN is quite the place. Plenty to see and chat about. Everything and anything you'd ever want to know about pens, inks, and papers. I hope you have fun here. :) So you're a newbie here but not to pendom, eh? What are your favs to write with?

Thanks, Gary. I did check out eBay and Google, and after getting feedback from various Ink Pot owners who raved about them, I ordered one from Pear Tree Pens via this network last week.

Or... we'll see. Heh.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry I'm late in arriving to this particular little party but by the sounds of it you will be fine here !

So a big hello from Dublin in Ireland !

Your pen purchases will increase !

We all deny it ... No honestly I'm just looking... oh and there's a nice ink... and I wonder what pen that is... I haven't seen one of those before... that looks nice ... I wonder how that pen writes ... and so on and so on .....

Sorry - temporary diversion there ! It seems to happen quite a bit when I wander in to FPN !

Best wishes

Helen

By the way I think that desk you commented on earlier in this thread is a type of desk known as a Davenport.

Hello, Dublin! Hello, Helen! Yes, my pen purchases, which had been in a years-long lull, have picked up slowly. I've even started trying other colors of ink again. [blinks in surprise, like What? Me?]

I really do feel as if I've found my tribe. And other surprises!

This is the best place in the whole. Wide. Web.

Thanks for the hearty welcome!

Lisa

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
