DocNib
Rainy/Snowy Morning Greetings From "Ink Bottle Central" at DocNib's PenEmporium! Another cold & rainy morning from the Northwestern U.S.A. and more ink bottles have been extracted from the stash for your purchasing pleasure! Next up is a stoneware master ink bottle from P&J Arnold out of London from the mid-1800's... http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p113/DocNib2006/ArnoldsInk1.jpg http://i126.photobucket.com/albums/p113/DocNib2006/ArnoldsInk2.jpg The ink was made by P & J Arnold of London, circa around the 1860's, and the "pottery" bottle appears to have more than one company involved. Embossed to the right of the Arnold's label is the wording: VITREOUS STONE BOTTLES, J. BOURNE & SON, Patentees DENBY POTTERY, NEAR DERBY. __________ P.& J. ARNOLD, LONDON. The bottle is approx. 9" high with a base 3.25" in diameter & weighs 1-LB 10.6-OZ, still has a partial cork in it's spout and sounds like some pigment is still present in the bottom of the bottle (haven't tried to pull the partial cork out!). Only a couple of very small chips in the glazed surface, one on the lip & another on the top of the main body. The label has darkened a little bit but from the close-up picture you can see that it is fully readable and has some very minor scratches/scuffs on the paper surface. Overall condition of this 130+ year-old ink bottle is "Excellent -"... ********************************************************************** PenEmporium Price $85.00! ********************************************************************** Price includes U.S. shipping/International shipping will incur an extra charge (at cost).
