Prices on Aliexpress

Recommended Posts

I wonder what effect the American tariffs have on Aliexpress prices. And I wonder if they used the chance to increase the prices worldwide, even for countries which don't have tariffs.

Please have a look at the following pen and comment how much it is in your currency. Please also comment if you have to pay taxes in addition or if they pay your taxes and charge you.

For Japan, it says (at the moment) 51575 Yen  (~$329 / 279 Euro).   This pen would require taxes to be paid to the Japanese custom office, around 10%, I would guess. I would have to pay it by way of the last mile carrier.

Please comment. But please: not 250 comments from one country.

I almost always use USD as the currency of transaction on AliExpress, even though my delivery address is in Australia as a matter of course, because I don't like letting AliExpress ream me on the exchange rate — and its ‘base’ currency is USD (not CNY per se, although the USD prices are influenced by fluctuations in the CNY-USD conversion rates of the day or week) — and would rather let my no-foreign-merchant/currency-fee credit card provider handle the conversion.

The price I see is USD 324.25, with ‘free’ shipping; but of course (as Aussies) we have to pay 10% GST (Goods and Services Tax) on top of that at checkout.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

This is what I'm seeing in Australian dollars. They would add 10% to that at checkout. (Actually they'd probably add more than 10%, cos several recently I noticed they tried to so that claiming some stupid thing about our govt charging on a full priced item not the discounted price actually paid. No, I didn't buy, on principle!)

Interesting.

Australia                        482 AUD ~ 336 USD +10% tax

Australia                                            324 USD +10% tax

Japan                            51575 Yen  (~$329 / 279 Euro) - probably 10% tax when reaching customs

Japan                                                324 USD  - probably 10% tax when reaching customs

somewhere in EU         346 Euro ~ 408 USD  (including tax? - otherwise very expensive)

US (got it by email)                          350.61

Looks like the base price is 324 - plus eventually taxes and currency exchange fees.

From Spain.

When I buy on Aliexpress VAT (usually 21%) is included and there are no additional charges. But there is a limit of 150 euros for that and I have never bought anything that expensive.

In this case your link shows a price of 348.99 euros VAT included. But if I go ahead and try to buy it, the price is 283.93 euros and no longer includes VAT. I would have to pay taxes in customs and I have no idea how much would that be.

From the USA: USD$ 351, estimated additional US state/local taxes, no additional charging, no tariffs

UK £253.16, guesstimating that would total about £320-ish as VAT and Service Charges would be levied at the point of entry.

"i spent roughly 20 years writing a journal that extended to some 35 volumes. at the end of it i'd written a bunch of words that ended relationships, filled up my closet, spent a river of ink and afforded me some excellent practice with fountain pens. out of all of that i kept a few pens. i believe the moral of this story is that when you sit down to write it is best to keep an open mind about what you'll take away from it in the end."

Six months ago, when I last ordered from Aliexpress,  UK VAT was collected at source.

Add lightness and simplicate.

When I tested it on Friday for UK delivery they had a "discount" refunding the VAT off the basket price of the pen so perhaps things have changed.

The Common Customs Tariff (CCT) for EU countries will be 4%for products like this. At the moment this pen is offered on AliExpress for around € 350,- (incl. P&P and shipping). That means that you have to pay around € 14,- on EU import duties. From July 2026 an added (extra) €3 EU import fee will also apply for non-EU parcels. Also added to the total cost is the handling fee of the courier (in the Netherlands PostNL will charge€ 10,-, DHL € 16,50+2%).

AliExpress is a IOSS platform and therefore the buyer doesn't have to pay VAT (or equivalent tax). What happens a lot is that sellers from outside the EU do not use a correct import declaration on the packaging. In that case, the import/buyer will be charged with import duties and VAT. That means that a pen with a value of € 350,- can (and will) cost around € 466,-  (€ 14,- import duties + 21% VAT+ 2% + € 16,50). The VAT will in that case also be added to the import duties. It is almost impossible to get this double VAT refunded.

When I looked just now, it showed £303.59 and said “price includes VAT”. £253.16 + 20% is £303.79 so seems like they were discounting the VAT (but who knows if you would then be hit for the extra 50 quid on import).

It is out of stock in any case.

Hmm for pilot 742 AliExpress is giving 262.68 USD, 221.28 euro while kiichin.com is only 4 dollars more
