Hi everyone I'm new here. I'm from Allentown,Pa. I acquired this pen set in a clean out of an old farm house and was curious if anyone could maybe help me know a little more about this set. Its marked 14k on every mechanism on it except I believe the nib although im not quite sure how to remove the nib to see if it is marked somewhere not apparent to the eye. I of course dont want to force anything and figured the best place to ask such questions would be here. I also was wondering the value or potential value. I thought the inscription was interesting. DR. JOHN T. HANKS. I thought maybe it was a salesmen sample. Or lol maybe a real doctor's name although I tried to find information online on the name but came to a dead end. Any help would be appreciated!

Greetings from Pittsburgh, PA!  :W2FPN:

Photos of the pen might be helpful.  Especially of the nib, the clip on the cap, and any inscriptions that you can find (not just the engraved name) on the barrel and cap.

I'm no expert on Waterman pens, but have a few, including a couple of vintage ones that are chased hard rubber (probably originally black, but now sort of faded to brown).  One of them I didn't know what it was but a guy in my local pen club spotted an engraving on the back end of the barrel with the model # on it.

I think, sadly you may have just missed the Philadelphia Pen Show (which was sometime last month -- I didn't go because the idea of driving across the Turnpike from the Pittsburgh area to Philly and back in January just gives me the newbie-jeebies (and driving to the greater NYC area and back on I-80 at that time of year doesn't exactly thrill me either -- but I'd be more likely to have my husband with me, because his sister lives in NYC and  two of his brothers and their families live in New England, and HE learned to drive up around Albany).  Next one in the general area is the Baltimore/Washington Show next month, out near the Baltimore/Washington airport (YIKES -- I still have make reservations for the show AND hotel reservations for the weekend!)

And I totally get you trying to find out information about the original owner.  There are some people who freak out about someone's name being on a pen, but I think it just adds to the interest; I'm not one of those people who has to have a vintage pen in the original packaging that has never been out of the box and in "pristine" condition -- most of my pens are vintage or semi-vintage, and the only ones I don't use are ones I haven't gotten fixed yet.  The only pen I was ever able to find any information about the original owner was some third-tier brand pen that a guy at a flea market in Washington, PA GAVE me because he claimed "he couldn't sell it".  And I Googled the name and it traced to a guy who ran a jewelry store somewhere down in Washington County, PA back in the 1940s or 50s -- I found some website that had an image of an old newspaper, and there was an ad for the store having a Christmas sale.  Looked up the address for the store, and it was in IIRC Canonsburg PA.  And had become an antiques shop.  But never got down there to show the pen to people working there and then a couple of years later I think they may have gone to "online only".  And might not even be in business at all at this point. :(
