InkFlash - Robert Oster Summer Storm

InkFlashes are short and quick presentations that show just enough detail to get a feel for the ink. Years ago, I got a bunch of ink samples from Cath at Sakura Fountain Pen Gallery. This Robert Oster Summer Storm was one of them. These samples have been sitting idle for too long, and will be making their appearance in InkFlashes over the coming months.

Rhodia DotPad N° 16

Lovely blue-purple-grey with sublime shading. Low saturation. Really shines in wet pens and/or broad nibs.

A look at the chromatography

Zero water resistance. A bit of a red undertone, that gives that wonderfully complex blue-purple-grey.

Writing sample on papers good and bad

Written with Lamy Safari M-nib. The bleed-through test is done as follows: 1x, 2x and 3x fill of the squares from left to right, to get increasing saturation of the paper. Beware that on the reverse side, the most saturated square appears on the left.

And finally a quick doodle

Nice! My Iroshi Fuyu looks much bluer and less purple than yours up top (out of the nine), but more so just below that. A grey with some blue in it = always great! (IMO).

@namrehsnoom -- Thanks as usual for the review.  I have a sample of this but never got around to trying it.  Good to know that it's legible even in a pen with a fine nib.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Interesting ink.  Maybe one day I'll review it. :D The chroma and your "doodle" are lovely!  Thanks for another ink flash!

Thanks for the info (I only used B&W film and learned to process that).   Boy -- the stuff I learn here!  Just continually astounded at the depth and breadth of knowledge in this community! Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

      >Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color,<   I'm sure they were, and my answer assumes that. It just wasn't likely to have been Kodachrome.  It would have been the films I referred to as "other color films." (Kodachrome is not a generic term for color film. It is a specific film that produces transparencies, or slides, by a process not used for any other film. There are other color trans

@Ceilidh -- Well, I knew people who were photography majors in college, and I'm pretty sure that at least some of them were doing photos in color, not just B&W like I learned to process.  Whether they were doing the processing of the film themselves in one of the darkrooms, or sending their stuff out to be processed commercially?  That I don't actually know, but had always assumed that they were processing their own film. Kodachrome 25 was the most accurate film for clinical photography and was used by dermatologists everywhere. I got magnificent results with a Nikon F2 and a MicroNikkor 60 mm lens, using a manually calibrated small flash on a bracket. I wish there were a filter called "Kodachrome 25 color balance" on my iPhone camera.
