Aurora Internazionale or 88 line width

Hello!

I have my eye on an Internazionale, and maybe an 88 Large, and I’m really not sure which width to go for. To put it succinctly, a Pelikan m400/600/800 F is just about as wide as I’d ever like to go. Really a hair too wide.

I know I will like an EF or F, just not sure which, and it’s a lot of moolah, so before I splash out I figured I’d ask the experts. And if anyone has any of these pens and could give a writing sample maybe with another common pen, that would be amazing.

Thank you!

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Thanks -that helps a lot. A writing sample in isolation is hard to put into perspective. Some broader nibs look delicate and spidery. It’s much nicer to see a few pens together.

I have a Sailor Shikiori Pro Gear Slim with a 14k m-f nib and I quite like it. If the Auroras are going to be in that ballpark I think I’ll be very happy with an EF.

I like my Sailor and Pilot EFs too, but they’re a bit …deliberate. Lovely and ideal when I want to sit down and “write something” but not as good if I want to jot some quick summaries of my thoughts before a meeting. The extra effort it takes to make certain my handwriting looks elegant can distract a bit from the practicality of the pen to get my thoughts onto the paper. So I’m glad the Aurora EF is close but not quite so fine.

I have both of these Auroras. You are likely to be very happy with an EF.

@jmccarty3 @A Smug Dill Game plan is to go for an Internazionale in EF and later on an 88 large in EF or F. Depending on how I like the Internazionale nib. I think it’ll be pretty ideal.

I received an 88 a couple of days ago but the seller misrepresented it… it’s an 88 small (like an ipsilon) and has a medium nib. Was supposed to be a large F. Nice enough pen but not what I was wanting. We negotiated a commensurate price reduction and I’ll keep the pen. This 14k Aurora M is very comparable to a Waterman F or Pilot M. The nib is very much smoother than Sailor FM, and much more interesting than the Pilot M. The Aurora’s got feedback but of a different sort. The Sailor FM is distracting after a few lines. On the other hand, the Sailor also produces better writing.

I’m so happy I listened to you. The Internazionale arrived this evening and although it’s tempting to say “wow, it’s perfect” with any expensive new pen… This is truly a pretty nice pen. The EF is perfect, edging toward a bit broad. So, on balance, perfect. Enough width that the letters have a touch of character but thin enough for maximum elegance and legibility. I’m extremely glad I did not opt for a fine!
