Esterbrook desk pen

Recommended Posts

I have and use daily an Esterbrook desk pen.  I seem to keep cracking the black part of the pen right at the point I'm pointing at.  They have never broken completely, only wiggle wen writing and leek ink.  I've cracked at least 2 of them in the same place.  Has anyone else run into this?  Has anyone ever thought of making that piece out of aluminum? I can't believe it would be hard to make on a lathe.  A black anodized aluminum I think would look sharp.

How hard are you pressing when you write?  I use those nib holders to test nibs, and I haven't run into any issues with cracking.  My biggest problem is that the nib sometimes sits tight, and I inadvertantly start unscrewing the taper when trying to take the nib out.

I think it's happening when the pen is in the well not when I'm writing. The pen does sit on my desk all day long and Maby someone else is using it incorrectly.  The fact that you need verry little pressure when writing is part of what I love about using fountain pens.

Being a dip-less requires very little pressure to use. I’ve never broken one in over 25 years. Either too much pressure is being used or you have bad luck with previously troubled pens.
