Vacumatic Junior Slender, but not? Laminated black, but not?

Hello

Wondering if someone might be able to throw some light on this little lockdown filler Vacumatic picked up at the weekend.  The pen is small, 115mm long capped, 12mm diameter on the barrel.  The remains of the imprint is just about gone with only "...cumatic" visble, and it has not got it's original nib, instead it sports a 1948 UK Duofold nib.  I'm in the UK so most likely a Canadian made pen.

But the barrel, what's going on here?  Transparent Laminated Black switching to Reticular Black!  There is an obvious but very well executed join between the two patterns, with a "collar" across the join on the inside of the barrel.  I'm guessing someone has salvaged a couple of damaged pens, shortening the overall length of the newly combined barrel in the process.  Seems a lot of effort to go to but then again may have been done in a time of make do and mend rather than throw away.

Any insight anyone might have would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Certainly looks like a reticulated barrel with a graft on the end.

Broken vac barrels can certainly be welded and redone so well the seam disappears.

Very well done. The union is not visible without the strong light. Not an easy work. Even if the pen is technically a "Frankenstein" it is an interesting piece.
