Brahmam Supreme - As Good As It Gets

I recently shared a post on Kim ACR Jumbo pens - the perfect pen for me in every way. Once I found it the search for my grail pen was over.

However, I am a fan of Indian handmade ebonite pens, and I wanted to know what's the best Indian handmade pen out there, possibly ever made.

I had already been devouring all the content on FPN forums related to Indian-made pens, for few years then. And this time I shifted my focus towards the premium handmade Indian pens there. What I found then, and what is still true for me at least, is that this Brahmam Supreme is the best pen that I could get.

But you don't just wish for such rare pens and get them immediately. Brahmam pens went out of production long ago, and forget about obtaining one, you rarely get to even see one online.

And I only learned later that Deccan had sold only two Brahmam pens like this. All the rest had smaller nibs on them compared to this one.

Fortunately, thanks to a super kind Collector, I got the opportunity to buy this pen about two-and-half years ago. This was also my first gold nib pen. So in a way I skipped everything else in between and directly went for the best pen out there.

Though I had several pens even back then, but there was nothing that I could call as premium. When I held this pen in my hands for the first time, and used it for a while, I realised how much better it was, in so many ways, compared to my earlier pens.

The finishing of the ebonite can put even the modern ebonite pens to shame. All the bands/rings in the cap and the pen body are made of solid 14KT gold, and not just gold-plated like some other premium pens. As per Deccan pens, even the clip is made of solid gold.

The pen has a squeeze-filler mechanism, and is supposed to hold about 3ml of ink.

But all that aside, what it all comes down to is that excellent 14KT large handmade nib. This Broad nib is solidly built and has generous tipping on it. It writes unlike any pen that I have, with a very pleasant feedback. And the handmade ebonite feed keeps up the pace perfectly while writing.

I love it.

I love everything about this pen.

For me, a guy who is a huge fan of Indian handmade pens, the Brahmam Supreme is as good as it gets.

[Have included comparison pics with my other handmade gold nib Indian pens - Ratnam Celluloid and Ratnamson Supreme]

Congratulations on your gorgeous collection. They are all beautiful pens.

I too have a weak spot for Indian handmade fountainpens, and have collected a few through the years.

Yours are truly wonderful looking, and I'm happy for you that they write as well as they look... Enjoy the treasures.

Thank you so much 🙂 Yes I know your love for Indian handmade pens. Have come across so many of your comments on them on old Posts here.

Do you have any particular favorites that you like to use often?

I never knew this reputation behind the brahmam pens. I frankly thought they were just another hand turned pen manufacturer. Thanks for this lovely post. Sad to not be able to lay my hands on these pens anymore. Its rare to see such high quality trims on modern hand turned pens. A gem of a pen indeed

Thank you. If interested, do take a look at old FPN posts. Just search for Brahmam pens and you'll find so many beautiful examples of it. It took me lot of time to get these gold nib Indian pens. Just keep looking. You might get lucky some day.

It varies, very much.

But today I (briefly) used my Wality 52PD. It's on my desk next to its sibling, Wality 52P. And next to that one is my name-engraved Asa Nauka, one of my all-time favorites. Also waiting in the wings is my Asa Athlete. And not far from all of these are some of my Fosfors, and the Deccan Author...

But I also love my Fellowships and Clicks and Beenas. As I said, it varies. I think the most prized one of them all is the Fosfor Islander that Manojd made for me from a piece of wood from a tree in my parents' yard... a tree typical of the island of Aruba, where I grew up. My name for this pen is Kwihi Islander.

So you like them all. Nice 👍

Wow. Love the idea behind that Fosfor pen. Very special indeed. FPN search didn't show any pic for it though.

The waiting time for Fosfor pens is too long these days - 3 years or even more.

This is so beautiful 😍 More beautiful than what I was expecting it to be, to be honest. Plus the sentiments behind it make it even more special. Thanks for sharing.
