DELTA DV ORIGINAL OVERSIZE - FILLING SYSTEM

Recommended Posts

Hey there fellow fountain pen collectors,

I've been looking online for the most accurate information regarding the filling system of the Delta Dolce Vita Oversized Original. I understand that there are differences between the Oversized Original and the Oversize 2.0 but I haven't been able to find if the original one has a cartridge/converter filling system or if it has a piston filling system.

I now own the Delta Good Life which is a limited edition (very similar to the DV if not identical) that contains a piston filling mechanism. I don't picture myself using the pen with a converter so I am asking to see if I should purchase one.

Question: Is the Delta DV Oversize Original a piston filler or cartridge/converter or are both an option for it?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum! I’m unfamiliar with the Delta fountain pens — but they look terrific.  Is this the pen you are considering (https://www.gouletpens.com/products/delta-dv-original-oversize-fountain-pen-original)?

If so, then it is described as a cartridge/converter filler using either short or long international size.  The third picture there at Goulet shows the pen disassembled, shown with its converter.

Currently most used pen: Eboya Houju Medium size with Bock 14K <F> nib -- Pilot Blue Black Ink

Dr.,

I am not aware of the differences between the original and 2.0.  I purchased my DV oversize several years ago, and it takes cartridge or converter.  It is NOT a piston fill.  I believe there is a smaller version that is a piston fill.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards,

Craig

I have two Delta Oversized originals  -  one is the all-orange model (Oro) and the other is the original black and orange (purchased in 2010 and 2012 respectively).  Both are piston fillers - and carry 14k gold nibs.

Erick

Using right now:

Jinhao 9019 "EF" nib running Birmingham Railroad Spike

Montegrappa Elmo 02 "F" nib running Ferris Wheel Misguided Mistletoe

Pilot 845 "F" nib running Noodler's Cayenne, Narwhal New York "F" nib running DeAtramentis Cyan Blue-Copper

Thank you that is also one of the best points of reference that I was able to find on GP.

Those are the only ones that I have been able to verify so far that are available for purchase?

This does help Craig, thank you very much for your input.

I appreciate every feedback as I have been trying to get mine for a while but seems like the piston in the Original Oversize is nowhere to be purchased...

Thank you very much for your input Erick.

Do you happen to know where I can get an original with the piston filling system?

Have tried for a while without any luck...

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, the original DV Oversize (of which I own one) was only CC. There was also a slightly smaller version that was a piston filler. I am not aware (which is not to say they don't exist) of a piston filler that was identical in trim and size to the original CC version.

There were, however, (almost infinite) variations made for the store Martemodena before Delta closed and which were piston fillers, CC, you name it. But there were differences in the trim (not vermeil), so they were not "original" in that sense.

If you like large pens and can find one of the original, do not hesitate! They are wonderful pens.

Mine has wonderful stub nib. The only "flaw" is that the converter soon runs out of ink (they can be eyedropped, but there's no way I'm doing that).

I wish I could help you with that!  I think you need to check Ebay - I know of no other way.

I must insist that I do have the Oversize versions and they are piston fillers.  I just checked the pens themselves, to make sure.  And this is way before Martemodena.

I am not doubting that! It is just news to me!

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

Is “original” an adjective or a model name?

DV OS pens also came in an array of trim finishes.

Thanks! I've got one of the most recent models which is the Delta Good Life (sold out in a matter of days) that looks very similar to the DV with even a vintage Original oversized nib but IS a piston filler. Limited to only 9 pieces for each nib size. Pics attached.

However I was trying to get one of the orange and black as well but I really would like it to be piston filler if possible, no hate to CC btw we just don't enjoy filling the pen as much with CC (by we I mean me and the person I was trying to gift the DV because they like my Delta Good Life so much).

I guess we are still on the quest!

It's the line of production there is the original line and a new line after the company started business again.

Thank you very much for the confirmation.

You keep my hopes up that perhaps sometime I may be able to get one of my own.

If you ever plan on selling you know where I am at (one can only hope).

By "original" I thought you meant the original line of DV OS pens.

I bought mine in 2002.  The product brochure enclose described it as having  a "tri-filling system: converter, cartridge and body reservoir (eyedropper filled)
