Apparently there will be a Lamy 2000 in green.

I say apparently because there isn't a lot of info. Via deloreantrails on Reddit.

I find it gorgeous, the price will be waaaay beyond my budget per pen. Never got a 2000, probably never will.

I seem to remember a previous Lamy 2000 LE being ridiculously overpriced for only being a new color. Looking it up now, looks like the pen did eventually sell out but I think it took a while. I'm curious how Lamy prices this one even though a green version doesn't excite me much.

That looks gorgeous. I'd like it, but don't fancy paying whatever massive price it'll be.

Interesting points for me, other than the fact that it's green:

- Polished clip (instead of the usual brushed)

- F only

- Unlike many of the modern special edition releases (for pretty much any brand), it doesn't come with ink

I wrote over on Reddit, so I'll put it over here, too. The photos and wording are eeriely similar to those used for the 2021 brown version: https://www.lamy.com/en/lamy-2000-brown/.

I'm not holding my breath that this is real, let alone that the leaked price on r/Lamy2000Club is accurate.

If it is true, this is the laziest marketing under new ownership I've ever seen.

Marketing aside, the price of Lamy 2000 LEs are always silly. The materials are neither special nor unique, just a different color. That should put the price at around 10-30% over the standard edition but Lamy always prices these at more than 2x. Had the previous editions been reasonably priced I would have been tempted but at these prices there's no consideration.

1) This is a Limited Edition pen, regardless of how minor a change has been made to make it unique.

2) The pen is Lamy’s product.
3) Lamy is in the writing instruments business to make a profit.
4) Lamy can price their products however they want.
5) All previous LE’s have sold out.
6) If the Demand for an LE exceeds the Supply then the price is not too high.

We can bemoan the prices of products we desire as much as we want but need to realize that these suppliers are not charitable institutions that exist for our benefit.

I reserve the right to moan about pens I will never buy ;)

I haven't bought a pen from Rolf in a long time but his prices were always really good.

We all know how capitalism works, and part of how it works is that we are free not to spend our money on products we don’t feel are worth it and we are free to express why.

I think it’s shamefully lazy of Lamy to release one random color way every few years and charge a massive premium. At least when Pelikan releases their overpriced limited editions they’ll often release an ink to match it.

In general I think most limited editions are overpriced and not worth seeking out, but something about these Lamy 2000 releases feels especially egregious to me. Perhaps it’s because they aren’t even bothering to release it in the full range of nib widths and the 2000’s hooded nib is not intended to be disassembled so you can’t easily swap in a nib from another 2000.

Actually, it's really easy to dismantle the 2000's front-end (e.g. to re-lubricate the pen's piston), and thus to swap a nib from one 2000 on to another 2000.

And one can do it by hand, one doesn't need any special tools. One only needs to take care to NOT lose either of the two smallest components when disassembling the pen, and to take care again when re-assembling the pen, to not over-tighten the front-end when screwing it back on to the barrel of the pen.

I did not know that, thanks! I still think Lamy should be offering these editions with their full suite of regular nib options.

I'm not going to disagree with that idea! 😁
