Planners and paper are my original love, because without them there is nothing to write on with my pens. 😉

Planner season is hot on our heels at the moment. Midori planners are announced, and Hobonichi is doing their August stadium previews with September 1 orders coming up. I have used a Hobonichi Original for the past 2 years, but as I have been loving my Travelers journal and it's weekly vertical insert, I want to change it up and get a weeks I can slip into my clear pocket when I want to carry everything. I miss the tomoe river paper when I am using it, but I am really reaching for it as a practicality.

Let's talk about upcoming planners what everyone likes to use and wants to try!

Post your favorite vendors to get planners.

Share your bullet journal methods.

Make sure our pens have plenty of work to do.

Hobonichi previews thus far are all below in case anyone hasn't seen them yet ... 👀 I'm surprisingly really liking the gold fabric but we are yet to see what happens ...

Nothing really caught my eye for 2025. I am still looking for a simple cover that does not have butterfly clasps. I wish they would rerelease the Taut from 2019... I really want that cover, and also in A5. (I know you can probably get this kind of cover from another brand, but I want one from Hobonichi as their leather materials are usually top notch and their branding is minimal).

Hobonichi used to be so classy, now I feel like they are targeting kindergarten kids.

After some browsing, it seems Hobonichi releases the Taut series every year (since 2019) in some variation:

2019 - Black (A6 only)

2020 - Red (A6 only)

2021 - Silver (A6 only)

2022 - Beige & Navy (A6 only)

2023 - Celeste Blue (A6 and A5)

2024 - Bordeaux (A6 and A5)

2025 - Brown (A6 and A5)

For those who want a simple and minimal, top-of-the-line A6 or A5 leather notebook cover, I highly recommend the Hobonichi Taut series. It is the best I've seen so far in terms of design and quality.

Some eye candy:

So to be fair to Hobonichi, they do at least have a classy line. I'm already looking forward to what this line has in store in 2026 because I don't think brown suits me that well. I wish they kept the Black in their standard rotation.

I’ve used the Travelers Notebook weekly plus memo insert. My life doesn’t really need a complicated system. So I use an A5 notebook, and write a page a day.

I do need reasons to use my TN, which is up to three regular size, and one passport.

I like Hobonichi, and I peruse their offerings each year at this time.

Overall, I use an unformatted A5 (or A6) notebook and stuff it full of all sorts of undisciplined and erratic entries.  So I'm not a very structured person, except for certain tasks.  On and off, this last year I've been copying dates and tasks over into a Hobonichi Weeks -- just to see if that will work for me.  I use this one https://www.1101.com/store/techo/en/2025/pc/detail_cover/wb24_kubota/

The Weeks format is a hard back book and has no closure.  I often use a small elastic bento strap that I got from Daiso. Weeks comes in a lot of plain styles including black and navy -- and there are also a selection of add-on covers.

If I stay the course, I may go with the "Denali" cover this year

Currently most used pen: Parker "51" -- filled with Pilot Blue Black
