Swan 2-1/2 SF

Recommended Posts

I've recently acquired this Swan/Mabie Todd lever filler, carrying the number "2 1/2 SF". I figure the SF stands for "Self Filler", and the 2 is the nib size, but I haven't been able to figure out what the 1/2 stands for.

Has anyone seen a 2 1/2 before?

Terrific pen, with a wonderfully flexible nib.

Unusual! I don't recall seeing that before.

Is that pen shorter than the SF2? It looks like it might be. I have never seen the 1/2 designation on a Swan before.

Yes, it's shorter. The length is around 114 mm or so.

It's also slender. Perhaps the 1/2 means slender, as it does with Watermans.

Yes that seems likely. I have always like Swan and have a few which I acquired over the years, but now I find them too small, too slender, so they don't get used.
