Hello, I have got a vintage platinum maki-e fountain pen by Rosui recently, but I cannot find any information about it. Has any one seen the same pen before? Any information is available. The images are from the seller cause I am a terrible photographer.😂 many thanks

How do you know it is a Platinum? Where is the signature? Clip is atypical for the 1930s. What is written on the nib? Is it gold? If that is how it is being identified the seller may be mistaken as many nibs from the 1930s were replaced.

Hello.

May I ask you.

Why didn't you attach in your first post an image of the nib, lever, Craftsman's inscription, etc. which are important to identify the pen?

All of the Rosui Maki-e fountain pen clips I have seen have "Platinum" engraved on them.

If your pen's clip also had a platinum engraving, would you have attached an image of the clip to your initial post?

I sense some sort of intent on your part in that.

To be honest I was alarmed…

Sorry it was my oversight. But several maki-e pens by Rosui in the FPW don't have "platinum" on the clips(third image). However,  in the platinum 100th anniversary book all of the pens have(first and second image). In my opinion the platinum maki-e pens should have the "platinum" engraved on the clip. Maybe some have been replaced later.Just a discussion.

Thanks for the reply.

Next time, please disclose as much information as possible in your question.

It will look like a question with a prepared answer. Please be considerate of your members' sensitivities.

I believe the pen is "Miyajima" or "Itsukushima"by Rosui. Miyajima and Itsukushima are different designations for the same sacred Japanese island.

There seem to be several pen variations of just that composition pen.

Google the word プラチナ 蒔絵師 小川露水 in the Japanese language. Rosui in the market will appear. Be careful, because a lot of scam sites appear.

I just did a Google search for pens on the market and have no information on Rosui, let me know if you find anything interesting. I love the actual landscape of Miyajima.

Welcome to FPN, please enjoy your pen.

P.S.

Miyajima and Itsukushima are written in the Japanese language as follows 宮島, 厳島.

Thank you so much, I think the design looks like the Itsukushima Shinto Shrine (宮島). Most maki-e pens by Rosui on the Internet are the red leaves landscape(紅葉山水). Information about this design seems to be very few. And there are all kinds of designs of the maki-e pens so sometimes I might mix them up. Thanks for your information.😄

Thank you for the additional photos. Unless the pen is a Pilot the additional information is essential. We take it for granted makie pens were produced the so-called Big Three - Pilot, Platinum, and Sailor in the 1930s. What we rarely hear of, and they show up liberally in catalogues of minor makers, are makie by other than the Big Three. Many of the designs were similar and it is thought many artists moonlighted for smaller producers.

The clip is similar to Platinum models made in the early 1930s. Later models had Platinum written vertically. Minor makers used generic clips that could be the same. Similar levels of decoration are found on many other pensd by Rosui. As many are unique it is unlikely it will have a model name. Usually only a description of thre decoration is provided.

You have a  nice historic pen. That it is a lever filler makes it slightly rarer than eyedropper models. Hope it writes well. Hold on to it as it is a treasure.
