De Atramentis Document Red

This ink like and it’s artsy sibling reminds me of watermelon juice. It’s a pinkish red. I’ve done a back-to-back review of both and frankly I don’t see much of a difference between them other than Artsy is slightly darker.

The ink is nothing like Noodler's Fox Red, that I reviewed recently. Frankly it's an underwhelming ink. However, if you need a good waterproof ink for editing it's a decent.

Let's start with the chroma:

Writing samples:

I realized in retrospect, that I don't have a fine Kaweco, so the fine is Medium, Medium is B and B is double broad. My apologies

Poem is Adrift by Mark Nepo.

Minimal ghosting on Hammermill.

Photo: You see the real colour. The more absorbent the colour the paler the ink.

Comparison:

Artist seems slightly darker.

· Pens used: Pilot Kakuna Ef/Stub Kaweco (EF/M/B/BB), Kanwrite Ultraflex

· What I liked: Teaching me to write with a feather hand  :)

· What I did not like: Not lubricated, palish red

· What some might not like: Dry, the colour, daytimes.

· Shading: None.

· Ghosting: Faint on copy paper.

· Bleed through: None

· Flow Rate: Alright.

· Lubrication: It won’t make your scratchy nib glide.

· Nib Dry-out: No.

· Start-up: No.

· Saturation: Nope.

· Shading Potential: Dismal

· Sheen: None

· Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: None.

· Nib Creep / “Crud”: A bit

Great! Watermelon sounds good, too. I have this ink and all of its De A. Doc bretheren but I'd call this one more of a coral-red. As you say, nothing much as re "Doc".

:D Love it!  (Did you mean to say that the red in this drawing is DAA Sepia? )

Nice kitties.  Cute red fox. :)  Poor skewered heart. :(

Thank you for this review of an uninspiring ink.  Even the chroma's kinda meh.  Matte / chalky is just not an attribute you want in a red ink, but it's common with the DAD inks (in my experience).  Congrats on unlocking the feather hand power. ;)

Coral Red is much more elegant, so be it :)

It was a prompt about Cards. Poor spades have had it bad, since the Queen of Spade

Their normal line is alright. And they've got some surprising new document ones :)

I was turning it into a video game skill that you have to unlock / achieve / activate / whatever. :)

Looking at your writing samples, to me this ink is just red, not pinkish red.

But then again, I find my definition of red can sometimes differ with a lot of people.

It's more like a coral red. The fact and the matter is that if you see the photographed version, you see the real colour. And then as I mentioned the more the paper is absorbent, the more the colour becomes light, hence coral :)

Thank you @yazeh for this inspiring review of an uninspiring ink. ;)

I guess, you found the best (while only) good use of this ink: for colouring heat waves!

One life!
