  Thank you for taking the time to  put together this post, @zeroduke! I appreciate it.

 

  The nib on the Mk I is extremely attractive. The semi keyhole vent reminds me of an Esterbrook dip nib. I prefer the two thin cap rings, but I like that the branding is less conspicuous on the Mk III.

In my experience, top of the cap for the most recent Experts is black plastic, not that metal disc you show in your photo.

 

I haven't tried the Mk I nib. Is it in any way better than the others?

My MkIII is exactly the same as the MKIII in these pics...except for the finial. As you note, mine is a black plastic with a "W" embossed on it, similar to the MkI in these pics. 

 

@zeroduke You sure all of your finial pics are labelled correctly?

I have an Expert 3 in dark red. It is a gorgeous pen.

You have to see it in person to appreciate it. But that is true about many pens.
