Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Colorverse Sea of Tranquillity

This is review #224 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: This was a gift from a generous FPNer.  Cleaning was quick and easy and revealed a hint of grey.  I don't really have anything quite like this color, but it's sort of a paler version of De Atramentis Jane Austin.

An Ink Guy says this ink is really dry.  You should probably trust his judgement more than mine, but as far as EF nibs are concerned, this ink flows very well. :)

Errata: (missing "f" at start of last sentence of Subjective Analysis) "If the long dry time..."

Zoomed in photo (Color is close, but not quite bright enough.)

Screenshot (The text color isn't a bright enough green.)

Scan of Completed Review (The text color is a little too blue, I think, but this is closest to what my eyes see.)

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (Both are close, but not exactly the right color.)

Line width (One of the lines used for dry time. Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 315µm. With 224 inks measured, the average line width is 295µm.)

Microscope image (400x. Three images combined, two cell phones, one with the microscope software. The correct green is in there somewhere. :) The specs were pink to my eyes.)

Unusual indeed, and I don't have a green like this, unless you count my 90% water-diluted Noodler's Bad Green Gator.

I no longer have my sample of Diamine Umber, but it was a flat green, no shading.  Some shading is visible in your close-up of the writing.  I could live with the feathers.  It's just that Eternal dry time….

Thanks as always for the review.  And story.  I'm getting worried about Quin!

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Great job @LizEF

I like the name of this ink, it matches the colour perfectly, even though it pertains to the moon. Probably the grey in the ink was a "wink" to the lunar attribution.

What creative imagination: Lamyton/ Atremntiberg/mold plague . What names will you come up of with next? Urkundentintenville? 😜

Looking forward to next week as usual :)

Nice ink. Pity I do not use green that much.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

The close-ups always make it easier to see shading.  And yeah, eternal dry times.  Sigh.

Agreed - a very tranquil color.

Thank you, @LizEF for the story part and for exposing yourself to a non-routine behaving green ink.

To my experience, Colorverse inks are a bit on the wetter and more lubricated side - this would be in line with your experience. The tassel in the microscope image is funny and suggests that there may be more hidden in this ink, than the routine use may reveal.  :)

One life!

Mine, too!  Great for EFs, not so much for poor @Sailor Kenshin's south paw... ;)

:)  Yes, I frequently see this sort of "widely distributed" blotch of different color.  I suspect it would show up in chromatography as a very thin line of pink.

Thanks for the review, @LizEF.  A strange green indeed. For me, the colour doesn’t work though. The colour just seems a little off.  Off what… I don’t really know 😉. To me, it looks like a green that started off towards grey territory, but ran out of fuel before reaching its destination. It wants to be a nice green-grey, but it didn’t arrive at that point.

 Not quite spring, not muted, not bold, not pastel...  But being tranquil, it doesn't mind that we think it's strange. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
