So we had been talking about blue pens in the “What Pen Are You Using Today, in 2023” and there were lots of blue pen pictures posted. Here are mine. They run the gamut from hella cheap to expensive in the 1990s. The only one missing is my five below calligraphy pen.

Me too! I particularly fall hard for blue and gold trim. That lapis Duofold in your photo caught my eye right away!💙

Since this is a blue pen thread, I’m going to go ahead and post a shot in the dark:

So the long story short is I’m looking for a pen to embody this color swatch: a dark glittery blue with a purple sheen. If anyone happens to have a pen with this color I would love to see pictures and a description of its make and model.

Since my pen collection is currently scattered around the house I will wait until tomorrow to send a picture of my own blue pens.

Ok, I had more blue pens than I expected. Some just barely qualify. Doh! I forgot to include my navy Plumix.

I'm pretty sure this is all of mine - I had to dig out a sketch kit or two to round them all up.

Ah, you have a Safari in 2011 LE Aquamarine…

I am still kicking myself for not buying one in a store in my nearest town back in 2012, when it would have cost me the ‘huge’ amount of £14 😔
Have you seen their prices now? 🤦‍♂️

Foul in clear conditions, but handsome in the fog.

I got mine after the release. I think it was the year the tsunami hit Japan, because the pen shipped from Japan. I don’t remember how much it cost, but I don’t think I would have paid more than $40. I have not seen the prices. I hope you can get one some day.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
