Over the past few years, while continuing buying FP, I was more into mechanical pencils and Japanese Stationery and I have a Twitter account @Penspecialist with nearly 1000 followers.

I am a big fan of Kaweco pens, Lamy, TWSBI.

Last month I bought my first Sailor pen and planning to buy a Mont-Blanc FP for my birthday, I’m afraid I’m starting to get in fountain pens !!!

I love stationery shops too and I can wander there for hours.

Greetings from Pittsburgh, PA! :W2FPN:

You certainly seem to have jumped in feet first!  Especially if you're about to buy a Montblanc (they're too pricy for my budget but I do have a few of their inks that I like, including just getting a bottle of Great Characters Jimi Hendrix after Christmas).

I generally suggest that new people to FPN click on the "New Content" button when they log in, to get a good range of topics (the amount can be adjusted, in order to not hit sensory overload).  And to have a look at the pinned Index to the Ink Reviews (even though a number of old images have been lost over the years -- many to when Photobucket hijacked people's accounts a few years ago).

But I also warn people that we are all evil enablers here, who will happily help spend their discretionary budgets on pens, ink, paper, repair tools, desk accessories, storage, sealing wax and seals, pen shows, and ephemera.

Have fun here, and don't be afraid to ask questions -- the only dumb questions are the ones that DON'T get asked.  And I'm constantly amazed and humbled by the pen community in their sharing of knowledge (and -- at times -- in "pay it forward" offers).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Thank you for a warm welcome ! I guess the ‘new content’ is the ‘unread’ tab ? The Mont-Blanc is a big dream I’ve had for many years, I think I’ve reached the age to buy one at last ! I will not forget asking questions whatever they are, thank you again !

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
