In search of nib unit for Sheaffer Valor

Hello FPN, greetings from Ireland.

I own a Sheaffer Valor, the polished Burgundy model. I recently dusted it off, decided to take it out to do some work. Beautiful pen, gosh I had forgotten how much I liked it.

The current M nib feels broader than I remember so I am looking for a F (Palladium) nib unit if at all possible, however, I am hitting walls everywhere.

Yes I have contacted Sheaffer in India and I have also spoken with a couple of people in the UK who historically repaired and sold Sheaffer.

It sounds like this may not be a simple search.

If anyone has thoughts or advice on the topic, I would greatly appreciate the help!

Thanks a million -

Patricia

Have the nib ground.  It is likely to be cheaper and easier than finding a replacement nib unit.  A good nib tech can likely make the nib better writing than the factory product, and get it closer to what you really like.

Yep, thought of that. The UK people (incl. Battersea) were reluctant to because of the inlaid nib, so I contacted FP nibs in Spain, but they only work on nibs from their own shop.

It's hard to believe we don't have anyone  in Ireland, North or South, that does pen work!

Thanks for the reply nonetheless, very best regards —

P.

I have the exact same pen - including finish and nib size - and it's line is way too wide for my taste too. I agree - it's a really nice pen. I took it with me on a recent extended trip to the US with the intention of having ground by a nibmeister there but I got too busy with other things and the timing did not work out.

Is postage prohibitive to/from the US? I know that not all the nibmeisters there will post to a foreign address but some will.

Script nib for writing screenplays. • Fine nib for my best writing. • Extra fine for my *very* best writing. • Medium for requesting a séance. • Bold for adventure stories. • Manifold for many various types of writing. • Coarse for indignant letters. • Oblique for making a point in a roundabout way. • Italic when I'm inclined. • Stub for when I intend to leave a manuscript unfinis

My pens for sale: https://www.facebook.com/jaiyen.pens  Currently collecting: Lacquered Duponts, Montparnasse and earlier; Parker Premier (75 descendent); Pilot Super, Deluxe, Elite, & Grandee; Sailor Hoscal; Japanese pocket pens with floral prints; various interesting & decorated Japanese pens.

I haven't gone down that road just yet! I have one more (remote) possibility in the UK but if that falls through, I will definitely explore a solution in the US. We were living in Atlanta GA in the US when I bought the Valor 🙂

I spent most of my first ~40 years in Atlanta. Moved away in 2005.

But I bought the Valor, 2nd hand, here where I now live - Thailand. 😅

I am shipping it off to Pennsylvania in the morning.

So grateful for the FPN!

And guess what, too?

I was in Los Angeles last month and my Valor is now with Mike Masuyama, who will grind it into a cursive italic.

Well, I look forward to seeing these nibs in action!  Please post pictures when you get your pens back.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY
