Thanks for the review, @Detman101!  Glad you've found an ink that performs perfectly for you and fits in one of your color niches. :D  Always nice to find one of those.  I'll have to add this to my list of inks to try.

Hey hey!! Good to hear from ya! :)

Thank you! This is soooo much nicer than "Cacao Du Bresil". I have been using a sample of "Sumiyoshi Brown" in lieu of the ink-mix that I'd been making myself to get that Grey-Brown, but this "Gogung" is sooo much better lubricated than Sumiyoshi brown in my dry pen...and much more grey.

Thanks for showing us this one. I can't get enough of taupe/grey-brown inks and I like this one because it leans so far towards grey.

(The Meat Puppets album this song is from - Meat Puppets II - is one of my most-played in the 1980s, along with early albums from the Replacements, the Minutemen, Husker Du, Soul Asylum, Squirrel Bait, and REM. In fact, I will now certainly listen to it today!)

WOOHOO!! Awesome!
I've been listening to the Nirvana version of "Lake of Fire" for like...the past week, for some reason. I'll check out the Meat Puppets version today as well!
Glad you like the ink, I am so very focused on finding the perfect "Taupe" ink right now.

This "Gogung" actually looks a lot like a mix that I used earlier this week.
It was a 1:1 mix of "Penbbs - Guilin" and "Herbin - Cacao du Bresil" (CDB)
The only downside to that ink mix was that it didn't really MIX...there was a distinct separation between the two inks in the pen when left to settle.
Guilin floating on the top...a mix of the two in the middle layer...and CDB on the bottom.  Having to shake up the pen every time before writing was not kewl.

So there was my discovery/lesson on ink density and why finding an ink that is formulated properly is the easier way to go...lol.

From my point of view, there is no perfect Taupe ink. Best to have a variety so there will be at least one that fits your current mood/inclination/gut instinct/whatever. If that means having to have multiple pens inked with various taupes, then so be it - just get a few more pens.

That's a very good point.
I'd like to have a range of greys...
Brown-Grey in warmer and cooler tones

Green-Grey in warmer and cooler tones

Blue-Grey in warmer and cooler tones

That's at least 6 different inks right there...

Thank you for showcasing this ink. It looks truly gorgeous! Definitely going on my “wanted” list.

Awesome, glad that you like it. :)
I'm happy it's appreciated, I am trying to review the inks I receive more often.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
