Clarion Capital owns the Cross brand and through Cross Clarion purchased Sheaffer.

Sheaffer doesn’t show up in the Clarion portfolio of companies and no entry of sale shows up on their news feed.

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

My PM box is usually full. Just email me: my last name at the google mail address.

These are the new owners of the Sheaffer brand .... https://www.williampenn.net/

Hmmmm.  I had not heard of them, but I just now had a look.  All the prices are in Rupees, but are pretty close to US / EU prices.  It might be early days, but I did not see much in the way of Sheaffer activity.

I think their website only shows them as a dealer in Sheaffer, no idea what parts of the business they will attempt to revive .... but they have a lot of work ahead of them.

There's a post on Facebook indicating Sheaffer has been sold to the Indian retailer William Penn. Can anyone confirm?

I saw that too. I couldn't find anything else about it. Hope the owner (if true) knows what he's doing. Various press indicate that he knows how to grow a retailing network of luxury brand items. I'm curious, but I don't know anything to add.

So this is true, I wonder if it’s the beginning of the end for AT Cross company and their reliance on Chinese Manufacturing?

An earlier thread in this same forum on this topic. Perhaps the moderators could be moved to join them in some way.

This seems bizarre to me. Sounds like Cross just wanted to unload Sheaffer on whomever would buy it.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but I'm not optimistic, that's for sure. Maybe it just becomes a brand sold in India and Asia.  It's pretty much a dead brand here in the U.S.A., it would seem.  I had heard at one time Sheaffer was big in the UK, but that's probably years ago.

I can't imagine where they go from here.

In my view Bic had a chance to bring back Sheaffer, but blew it. Then they dumped it on the private equity group that ran Cross, and Cross thoroughly, completely bungled it.  Hard to believe that Sheaffer Pen was once a top company with a worldwide presence and high-profile advertising on television and magazines, etc., and distribution in stores everywhere.

W.A. Sheaffer must be turning over in his grave at what happened.

Maybe they will bring out a Balance III, made in India with high quality plastics that won’t crack😊
And we certainly can hope for a new Grand Connoisseur in a variety of Ebonite materials.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
