Thank you for the review. Brief and to-the-point.

I think many/most of these mass-produced pens would benefit from a good nib tuning.

Just my opinion based on previous purchases.

:D sorry I'm a little confused here, you think the nib from this review could use good nib tuning too? Not sure if 1898 copies equals mass production or not lol

The pens may not be produced in large quantities, however, I would wager that the nibs are "mass-produced" and simply inserted into the section.

Somehow I don't think, and I could be wrong here, that Conklin (Yafa) has a small room where a few employees sit and meticulously assemble the limited edition pens we purchase.

As I said, "I could be wrong".

If anyone knows differently, please let us/me know as I have several "Limited Editions with numbered caps/barrels.

I see, I agree the nib could be better. I am relatively new to the fountain pen world so that's why I wasn't sure

Welcome to FPN.

Learning about this hobby takes time and experience. Here on FPN one finds a wealth of knowledge in the printed materials and the wonderful (my opinion and experience here) people who share that knowledge. It makes it fun as well as informative. And ultimately rewarding.

Thank you for showing this, it looks particular.

I own an All American in resin, it's quite a big pen, I don't love the step from the barrel to the section, although I still find it usable, the nib is nothing special, but not bad either, it has reliable perormance (no skipping or hard starts) and makes a good workhorse pen.

If this is solid brass however I hate to think what the weight could be. You say it's heavy, how heavy if I may ask? (above 25-30g uncapped it becomes unbearable for me).

Hi, the pen would be too heavy for you, it's 39 grams uncapped.

I like a heavy pen when I'm in the mood. This one does constantly move upwards in my thumb/index finger hand area. If you know what I mean, it's hard to describe haha. Anyway, my point is it's annoying. Don't know if it has anything to do with the weight though.

I like the looks of the pen, but the Conklin nibs I purchased were disappointing so I quit buying Conklin pens.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Long time ago I bought a Conklin Mark Twain Crescent filler fountain pen. After a short time in the tropical climate the trim of the pen started to rust and the cap band came off. I stored it away in my collection until recently I stumbled on the pen again when checking my collection (about 700 fountain pens). Conklin quality is very disappointing, that's why I never bought another pen from them.

Nice pens and  bad performance?

Cool looking pen.  Thank you for sharing it with us. I’ve bought Conklin pens, all with 1.1mm stub nibs, and have been happy with them.  The All-American has a wider grip, which is the only thing I’ve not liked.  My fault for not researching the pen more.

I'd like to add that I'm only now realising/finding out/experiencing first-hand the impact the quality of the paper has. The ink flows way better on my Paperblank

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
