~ Several former students now employed in East Asia have inquired about using Italic Edge for signatures on business documents.

During the course of any given year I seldom sign any documents, hence I'm poorly qualified to meaningfully respond to their question.

What exactly might constitute an ideal signature pen is unclear to me.

My own writing tends to be more along the lines of extended letters, or marginalia on manuscripts.

Italic Edge has shown its versatility in displaying inks of various hues and intensities.

While it would likely provide a legible signature, it's for others to suggest if it's especially well-suited for signatures.

On my writing desk Italic Edge has been a fountain pen which I associate with relaxed, pleasurable sketching or writing.

In short, it's great fun to use!

No Type, thanks for the hard work of compiling the list of inks. Would you mind also putting the page number next to the inks going forward as it's difficult to find where exactly the ink appeared? Thanks!

@JCC123 Date of test and page number have been added to all ink tests.  (If you find any errors, please don’t hesitate to mention them, and they will be corrected in the next updated list of ink tests.  Thank you for requesting that this additional information be added to the ink tests, as now the list is more useful.)

Thanks again @NoType. I know you had to go through this again after the site's database went down hence I will thank you once again for repeating your earlier work. Hopefully, you've got this written down on a document and that this is just a backup you post so that if the database goes down again, you'll just be able to cut and paste it?

@JCC123 The pleasure is all mine, and one hopes this list proves a functional reference of sorts.  Yes, indeed, in this instance a backup stands ready to accelerate replacement of information (though reformatting will be necessary).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
