Inky T O D - Simply Irresistible - What inks have you acquired because you love the brand?

Before I learned about FPN, I purchased Concord Bream from Noodler's because up to that point, every Noodler's ink I had tried had been wonderful.  (Yes, I had some original great choices).  Concord Bream was AWFUL.  I learned about reviews.

So, what inks have you bought just because of the brand?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I've bought some Sailor Jentle and Sailor Manyo. Some Lamya with just a stock photo at most (dark lilac, azurite, benitoite). Organics studio back in the day. My box set from Birmingham probably fits this description too. Probably the majority of Birmingham purchases going forward..

OH, and I have a Bungbox Neon Green that I purchased because it was unique and Bungbox, when @alarickc suggested I get L'Amant.

I have about every color of Iroshizuku, bought them because they are great colors and well-behaved inks. Oh, the bottle is nice too, but I bought a couple of Akkerman inks *mainly* for the great bottle.

The entire range of Platinum Classic Ink. I thought I was going to stop at five, because the last of them (alphabetically, or otherwise) — Sepia Black — seems to close to Khaki Black in colour, at least for handwriting, but from reviews it seems its water resistance is noticeably inferior to the latter. All the same, when I saw Sepia Black somewhat discounted on Amazon AU, I just had to order it. I still haven't filled any pen with it, or so much as tested it with a dip pen, since I got the ink quite some time ago.

I also got the entire range of Platinum Mixable Ink.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I think in a sense I buy most of my inks at least partly because of the brand, but as far as inks that I bought because I *love* that brand? Pretty much most of my Platinum inks. Between Platinum inks and other inks, just being a Platinum ink tends to put it ahead for me. Of course, many of those purchases were because I liked the ink as well (the Classic line comes to mind). But I also buy a lot of inks in the color-range that I like simply because I want to have that brand's ink color. I have Herbin Bleu Nuit and Bleu des Profondeurs in large part purely because they are Herbin inks, even though I don't use them much. I have a range of Waterman inks because Waterman as a brand holds a special place in my heart, though they also serve as a great baseline.

As a specific ink, I might point to Platinum Red. I have almost no red inks, but I do have Diamine Red Dragon, PR Plum, Cassis Black, and Platinum Mixable Flame Red largely to satisfy family needs for inks in that color spectrum. However, I found myself actually wanting to have a red ink, and I couldn't help but pick up Platinum red to round out my collection of standard Platinum inks. And this is very much in spite of being aware of how much other people seem to be down on the Platinum Red color itself, as well as it not having much water resistance at all, and not being very archival, all of which are things that often weigh on my mind when I am considering an ink. But, my heart is and was made up, it's Platinum's red ink, and I *like* it just because of that. And frankly, even though I know I'm biased, I have a ton of fun with it nonetheless and actually enjoy the color.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
