Good for Lamy, good for Appelboom; and good for the serious fans who jumped on it straight away. (I wasn't one. Not interested at all, actually.)

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Probably resellers pushing up prices.

What could possibly make you think that was of any value to the conversation?

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

Just to make it clear that even he who is not interested in the product can be happy for others who are doing well selling it. Better than Lamy introducing a new limited edition that turns out to be of little interest and demand in the market!

I like the pen and idea and ordered mine at a very reasonable price from Atlas Stationers. It’s not going to break the bank and will definitely be fun to use this fall …

I treated myself to the new Al-Star. I don't quite know what to make of it. While the colour combination is quite exciting, the glossy coating (PVD?) somehow gives a plastic feeling when you hold the pen in your hand. So it's not like a typical Al-Star.

I'm a huge Safari lover and user, and this is my first Al-Star—I just ordered it.  Not sure what to make about the fact that this one feels plastic... 😅

I've stayed away from Al-Star partly I've always found the Al-Star colors to be too muted for my taste/use case, and partly because, well, in my opinion the Safari is meant to just be a molded plastic pen and I absolutely love that about it. I can throw it in a bag since it's very sturdy, and their bright colors make sure I can find the easily inside a bag.

Al-Star colors are very pretty, to be sure, but I think the form of the Safari doesn't need to be "dressed up" like that, especially Lamy LX. Still, I'm excited for my first Al-Star!

I’m absolutely loving the red lacquer on this SE - it looks to be of the same quality as the “piano” black/white finishes. So much fun!

With the neon yellow section, this has got to be one of the brightest, coolest pens out right now.

I fitted mine immediately with a 14K nib as the steel nib was pretty boring.

Happy Halloween!

The blue looks quite dark in comparison with the older french blue.

I am interested in the the re-release French Blue Safari, but I see that they're threatening me with a free bottle of Lamy Blue ink if I order it.

OH SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Thank you, @ljzfor leaking the new colors.

Petrol and Lilac might be Safari colors from prior releases, but  offered as AL-Stars. And this is wonderful news to me because I loved both of those colors in the Safari line but prefer the durability of the AL-Star bodies. If these are released in anodized aluminum, I will be able to use them in my EDC!

If the color swap between lines is what Lamy is aiming for then perhaps the Safari colors for 2023 will be the equivalent of the AL-Stars Pacific Blue or Azure (Aquasky), Charged Green (Spring Green), and Cosmic (Light Rose).

Ogod, but now I want to know and I'll have to wait til next year and the suspense is going to *kill* me!

Also, speaking of 2021's Al-Star LEs, Azure and Cosmic: did anyone think that they were a match for the 2016 Pantone Color of the Year double offering of Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue?

I saw those Al-Stars and immediately thought it was a shame that they came along 5 years too late.

Perhaps it was a regrettable and unavoidable matter of timing: perhaps Lamy needed more advance notice for 2016's CotY, the better to tool their assembly line to match Pantone's announcements.

It would be so awesome if Lamy and Pantone matched each other on any given year. It would be an added incentive for me to buy.

Not that I need much more reason to buy. ;)

And it occurred to me that if my guess is right, then I will have the entire Safari "Dark Side" set (Charcoal/Black, Petrol, and Dark Lilac, all in the pebbled matte finish) reproduced in the AL-Star line, because I have the all-black AL-Star already.

Golly I hope I guessed right. The idea of having a Dark Side set in both Safari and AL-Stars just makes me swoon! ^_^

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
