These images of Italic Edge are stunningly beautiful.

Thank you for collaborating with Montblanc for a third time to produce this very special writing tool.

Such creativity and loveliness of form brings great joy.

A 146 with a 0.7mm CI nib is very seriously tempting. It would border on irresistible. I haven't quite figured out which side of the border yet. 🤔

David

I found it to be "irresistible". I ordered mine today.

Today, I received an email from Tübingen saying that my order has cleared Customs and will ship via DHL today. It should arrive on 20 July. I will keep you informed.

€80 is Fritz-Schimpf standard shipping rate for larger orders. I ordered three pens, some ink, and some of their paper, too, and it was €80. By the way, their house-brand ink and paper are very nice and good values, too. For smaller orders, they charge €30.

Sorry, I was wondering what the Custom's Charge would be, not the shipping. Anything over $800USD is charged customs duty to the US when it goes through DHL or Fedex, plus a handling fee by the respective companies. And they do collect it, as the shipping companies get extra money via handling the inspection, LOL.

Usually you get a notice by email from DHL when the package from Germany lands in England ( East Midlands Airport, I think) and DHL begins processing it.

As I recall, it varies, depending on where the pen ships from, declared value, who the Customs Inspector is, etc. I have spent as much as $100 or so. I'll let you know when I get the bill. I did order three pens from Fritz-Shimpf, so I will almost certainly have to pay something.

I only ordered the pen and a bottle of ink and it was 80 Euros. My usual shipping charge for them is 30 Euros and both times I’ve ordered multiple items, but just under $1k of goods so that may have something to do with it.

I checked on my tracking number with DHL today, Sunday. The package arrived in Los Angeles yesterday. I should be hearing from DHL soon about Customs charges. They usually hold the package until I have repaid them for the Customs Duty.

Mine is in the Los Angeles Gateway DHL warehouse and has a note attached when the tracking number is input.

"Due to the nature of the goods, specific authorization is required from a regulatory authority other than Customs for further clearance.

Note: Further processing will occur as instructed by the regulatory authority. A DHL representative shall attempt to contact the consignee/importer or shipper if further details are required."

I've never seen that warning before. The package should just have the pen and a pad of their paper. No inks or anything  else was ordered.

I see no such note on my report. We'll see what happens next. In the past, Fritz-Schimpf has included some goodies, like ink and paper, in my boxes. Those shouldn't hold up the package, though.

My package left Los Angles last night at 23:20. I heard from Fritz-Schimpf this morning that DHL had a bill for the import duty for me: $61.80. Paid it with the credit card, so the package should arrive in Las Vegas, today. When it makes it to my house, I'll let you know. Please note that I have three pens in this order. For previous purchases, I have have not had to pay duty; there is some threshold. I enjoy working with Fritz-Schimpf and their manager, Sebastian Stolz. With the current exchange rate, European pens are at their best prices in a long time.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
