Recommended Posts

We are very happy

to be able to announce that

on July 9th, 2022,

we will be launching our

third cooperation pen with Montblanc.

One week before, on July 2nd,

the new pen will be available

for pre-order in our online shop:

https://www.fritz-schimpf.de/Marken/Montblanc/Montblanc-x-Fritz-Schimpf/.

We will start shipping on July 11th.

This project started many months ago

when we received the first four prototype nibs

of our third Montblanc x Fritz Schimpf Special Edition.

After many long tests and discussions a very special nib has been created.

On May 10th,

the day of the grand inauguration

of the Montblanc Haus,

we spent the day behind

this fascinating building test writing

the 100 nibs of our upcoming edition.

Now all of these nibs are waiting to be written...

Kind regards,

Fritz Schimpf

PS. More information regarding the name and all the details will follow.

Hello @Fritz Schimpf,

thank you for the beautiful pictures. It looks like a very broad nib...maybe something like a 3B. I am very keen to see your new baby. Too bad I missed the Italic 100 and the expressive.

Hello Karmachanic,

that's the line width of the first cooperation, the Italic 100. The nibs on the picture above look far broader than 0.7 mm.

A 146 with a 0.7mm CI nib is very seriously tempting. It would border on irresistible. I haven't quite figured out which side of the border yet. 🤔

My  Bad.  Thank you.  Too bad for me, I could live with a 0.7 on a 146.  Maybe one day I'll wake up with a 146P B under my pillow.  I know just the person to transform it.

Add lightness and simplicate.

A 146 with an M nib could be reground to about a 0.7mm stub or CI by any nibmeister. These are widely available, including on the used market for around $250. A B nib (harder to find used of course) would be a starting point for a slightly wider stub or italic tip.

Yes. In fact, I have a 146 with a B nib that I had ground to CI. It is a wonderful pen for my everyday italic handwriting. But having a factory made MB italic nib would be pretty special.

... Hmmm, 18 kt broad nib, ... it looks like a special 149 is on the way.

~ @Fritz Schimpf: The black and white nib photo above is especially pleasing.

It was shown to a group of 15 and 16 year old high school students earlier today.

They were asked to identify what was shown in the image.

Several thought it was a kind of award statue.

Others imagined that it might have something to do with satellites.

One student asked if they were used to mix cosmetics.

The only student to recognize them as fountain pen nibs writes with Lamy, Waterman, and Pilot pens.

Terrific image! No doubt the pen itself will be a very special writing tool.

Dear Tom, thank you for your kind words and for your very interesting and a bit frightening anecdote.

The Fritz Schimp webpage has been now updated for Pre-orders. It is a Special edition MB149 in Platinum with a smooth, very wide Italic nib. It can also write much smaller when the nib is turned 75 degrees.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
