Is this Montblanc authentic?

Kia

Recommended Posts

Hi there,my name is Kia and this is my first time posting something here at fountainpennetwork

I wasn’t sure that should I bring up a new topic or just write it down in an existing one🤕

any way,I have just bought a montblanc 146 ,used, for a fair price I think but I’m not 100% sure that if it is an authentic one or not

first of all,no serial number is there on the clip band, and there is a “germany” etched on the backside of the clip ring, everything else looks perfect

can you please help me with that?33F24295-053F-4567-8FED-CA675C1BC63E.thumb.jpeg.f4cc3a05d0883a98fa8d7becce2e5d5a.jpeg507C2B2B-292D-4562-B5FD-028CFD01BA5A.thumb.jpeg.8a2d9233ecbcf1779208c941c8f391b8.jpegFA3734D8-4BD8-48D3-8152-F0EDAB9CC2E2.thumb.jpeg.fc16ddbb6102f4a6efd82ca243686664.jpeg72EC8CFE-6678-4DD6-8A34-B50DAF34554A.thumb.jpeg.3c25e4906db0002efdcd6b7561254470.jpeg3C6B5DC8-7618-4CB9-B30B-DF9D10667465.thumb.jpeg.86401ecfc6a601823fce4fd7e1a22427.jpeg121C1867-4CDE-45A0-8E0F-BB911F35DB26.thumb.jpeg.afe5f9a80f866831edb3fc0a82b0904c.jpeg15DEB8F9-2A51-4F5F-9F4D-A4E160BAFE93.thumb.jpeg.9e4c27829aa4c1ebc715fe5921c9d9fd.jpeg

Usually if its a piston filler, its real. This does not often get imitated. To me it seems like a real Montblanc from the pictures.

Latest addition:  Montblanc LeGrand 146 Calligraphy Flexible Nib

I just compared your good photos to the same areas on my fake Chinese 146 piston filler. The good news is that the engravings on your pen are much crisper and better than the fake one.  Did you try a magnet on the nib? Gold is not magnetic so that is another test you can easily do.

@OCArt could you post a picture of the fake one, clearly stating its fake in your post here, so we can use it as a comparison?

The fake is a very good one, even the cap interchanges with my real 146.  You can see various photos on Aliexpress here.

Yes, a real early 90s MB 146, no doubt at all (even the slightest).

Seeking a Parker Duofold Centennial cap top medallion/cover/decal.
My Mosaic Black Centennial MK2 lost it (used to have silver color decal).

Preferably MK2. MK3 or MK1 is also OK as long as it fits.
Preferably EU.

Whatever good a fake is, there are always differences - the nib appearance and above all the feed, for instance. Nope, this one is real for sure.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
