Not sure if I should be posting these in multiple places, as this also falls under the Impulsive 'Purchases thread, the CRVs, and the Big Pens thread.  Plus the ink colors.  If anyone wants me to add to those, I will.

I blame this purchase on @amberleadavis!  The only thing I don't like is that the feed has an odd smell; I hope it goes away.  It's clearly the feed and not the body.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

really want to love Osprey’s offerings but all three of mine leak where the converter screws into the section. And it’s not just the cheap model. I have a black Scholar, a Nikko ebonite Milano, and an acrylic Milano. All three have the same issue. Aside from the leaks (which really honestly only relegates them to my desk and not my shirt pocket), they’re wonderful pens. The Nikko hard rubber Milano is one of the most beautiful in my collection of 250+ pens.

One thing I have zero complaints about is their customer service. And their nibs are awesome too.

Thank you for the pictures. Bummer about the leaks. Have they fixed that problem? My cheapo Madisons are flawless.

Mine doesn't leak, but still smells.  Trying to decide whether to contact them again. Other than the smell I love the Madison.

Could you tell me more about the size of the Madison?

What kind of smell is that, heavy plastic smell, like new shower curtains?

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

It is similar in size to my Narwhal Schuylkill.

No, that isn't the smell.  It sounds odd, but it smells more like long-in-the-tooth grated Parmesan cheese, perhaps sitting on a tomato sauce base.  It doesn't smell like vinyl.

Weird, I mean the smell, parmesan? Could it be burn smell, that is generated if they turn the pen/section too fast on the lathe?

I don't have any Narwhal, do you have any Lamy?

@Anne-Sophie the smell is the ebonite feed.  The Madison is a similar size to a Sheaffer No nonsense.

@Anne-SophieIt's bigger than a Lamy All Star(both length and girth).  And I think I know what burn smell you mean; that's not this smell.

Thank you Amberlea, another point in its favor.

Speaking of point, I am utterly  clueless on how to order a regular round steel nib, from them, while inside the pen and one extra?

Also, is it possible to get a plastic , not ebonite feed unit?

Send them an email on their contact link.  I think their ordering is confusing.

I'm waiting for them to tell me the new ones are available.  Should be soon.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
